Hmmm… I realize that there are only so many iterations that can be created for THOW’s, but this one looks nearly identical to the Tumbleweed Cypress!
It is… Tumbleweed didn’t just build Tiny Houses but also sold plans to them. So there’s actually quite a few that were made that weren’t built by Tumbleweed…
Though, you may see more of this now because the company has also gone through mismanagement since Jay Shafer left and after nearly going bankrupt they essentially have a new owner now who is more RV business model focused…
Of all the models Tumbleweed created, they now only list 4 on their site…
In general very few house designs are actually ever copyrighted. So it’s more about having the exact dimensions and materials break down to easily make the model that you get from the plans. Otherwise builders just make something that just looks like it and that’s pretty common, especially as most are custom builders and many people come to them with photos of what they want that they get from Pinterest, Instagram, etc.
Other times the design is actually owned by a 3rd party who sells the rights to build it to companies and that’s not always exclusive to one company…
And yet other times companies fail and part of the liquidation of assets process is they sell the rights to other companies.
Like Tiny Siesta is now building beach house designs that were originally made by Upper Valley Tiny Homes, which went out of business a few years ago…
So this isn’t uncommon…
Tumbleweed no longer sells building plans for their house..
Ladder instead of a stairway to the loft.
FAIL.
Wow… and here’s me thinking that a ladder would be actually pretty much just perfect for a Sparrow. ; )
I love the cozy little window seat that can also be used as dining. The Red Kitchen is really cute too. You could do either country kitchen or Coca Cola. 🙂
A job well done, but once again, I need to advocate for 1st floor beds, actual beds. More and more older peeps are looking to go small. It makes sense, as we’re on a limited budget, but we want to be comfortable as well. I’m hoping as the tiny/small movement grows, and ages, we’ll see more lay outs with the older person in mind.
That is not hard to do with this design, as the kitchen and bath are at the same end, it would be easy to move the door to one of the long sides (opposite the couch) and build a daybed into the far end which can do day/night duty. Bedding and clothing can go in big drawers underneath. If you want more storage and a bit of separation, small closets can flank the daybed area. I’m planning something similar, don’t want to do a ladder or even stairs when I am half asleep.

If memory serves me right, I believe Marcus Lemonis of CNBC’s, “The Profit” has a stake in the Tumbleweed tiny house business.
