Here’s a sleek and modern two-story foundation tiny home built by Robert Abasolo from the Robuilt YouTube channel and is now used as an Airbnb in California. The “Conejito” plans for the build came from the Small House Catalog and you can purchase them to build your own tiny house here.
This model is just 300 square feet and includes a balcony off the second-story bedroom, as well as a carport outdoors. There are lots of clean lines and a shed-style roof to keep things simple. Could you live here?

Description:
My newly constructed tiny house is located in the heart of Joshua Tree! It’s tiny, but mighty. While the home is only 300 square feet, it’s open and airy layout can accommodate up to 4 people. It’s a cozy fit, but we make it work perfectly.
The home is furnished with one full-size memory foam bed in the upstairs loft, and one full-size Article sleeper sofa. (We’ll let you draw straws to decide who is sleeping where—ha!) The optimal amount of guests would be 1-3 people. But we can definitely fit 4 if you’re willing to squeeze! Please keep in mind, it’s a tiny house. So if space and privacy is important to you, this may not be the best fit.
Inside the kitchen, you’ll find all the silverware, pots, pans and plates you need to pretend like you’re going to cook yourself dinner from scratch!
The living room is furnished with a nice flat-screen tv where you’ll be able to Netflix and chill with friends.
In terms of amenities, we’ve got you covered too! You’ll have access to small, yet important, things like: An iron, blow dryer, towels, soap, napkins, oxygen and more.
As I mentioned earlier, my casita chica is so perfect, you’ll want to stay forever. We’ve had guests ask. Just kidding. (But seriously.)

Why would one build a 2 story with that much land? Just put the balcony on the roof and have 360 degree view and a far larger balcony.
Well, a wide view of the surrounding area doesn’t mean the property includes that much land. If you look closely you’ll see fencing that’s marking the property line and there are neighboring houses visible nearby. So not actually that much land…
While even having lots of land doesn’t automatically mean someone wants their home to have a large footprint or that their priorities don’t include other usages for the land that would require keeping it open and free for those other usages.
There’s also the fact it’s in the middle of a desert. Balcony view is nice but it can also be nice to not have to worry about the local weather conditions just to have that view when you can just look out a window from a conditioned space.
Besides, built from plans also means it’s the design he chose and the layout also effects it’s exterior appearance/curb appeal… Mind, it’s an AirBNB, it’s near the national park, etc.

Sweet, love the 2nd storey, shame there’s no trees and the side table beside the bed is actually a late 50’s early 60’s phone table 🙂
Well, there are trees, as can be seen in the last photo down. Just a limit of what can grow in the desert climate there and the native trees have their own distinct look. The Joshua tree, Yucca brevifolia, is a member of the Agave family and is the namesake for the area and national park there. Along with California Fan Palm trees and nearby in high-elevation ecosystem hosts pinyon pine and juniper trees.
Ordinarily, we enjoy a good tiny home…
… but the ‘dessert landscape’ pushed this to the top!

I think this is a very fine home. I would love to stay there during a vacation. I would love to live in this home.
