College Senior Building 5th Wheel Tiny House

This post contains affiliate links.

Sarah Hasting’s is a senior at Mount Holyoke College and she’s building tiny house on wheels using a 5th wheel trailer on a parking lot at school. That’s why I call it a 5th wheel tiny house.

Sarah is an architecture major and this is part of her senior project. Pretty awesome, isn’t it?

And she decided to build her THOW on a 5th wheel trailer which is known to be more stable when towing.

It’s a 200 sq. ft. tiny house design. Take a look below and learn more at the original article over at MassLive.com.

groovy. i could easily live in that space–just have to figure out what to do with the hubby and kids (tee hee). i love absolutely EVERYTHING about this little house. the design is intelligent, thoughtful and VERY creative! love the colour scheme, the exposed beams, that gorgeous door, the hutch, storage in the stairs and that sweet bedroom/cubby! has a great aesthetic to it as well. would love to see it complete–well done, young lady!

when i clicked on the title “college senior building 5th wheel tiny house” i just assumed it was a male college student. i was so pleasantly surprised to see that it was a female student instead (smiling right now).

I’ve often wondered why people don’t use semi trailers..they are built for heavier loads, and can be moved by semi-tractor cabs

If I am understanding the pictures right, there is just a short about 3 steps up to the bed. So not up a ladder to a loft.

I love that she chose a THOW as her project. Looks great so far. Will you keep us updated?

I absolutely love the exposed timber beams and reclaimed furnishings – makes it feel like a small cottage instead of a box on wheels.

Also gotta love her sense of priorities – “I would never want to sleep in a crawlspace.” A girl after my own heart! I’d give myself a concussion sitting up in bed in way too many of the sleeping lofts out there.

Hopefully we can see this one when it’s done and furnished out.

It is encouraging to see young people of either gender approaching their lives with an earth-friendly and sustainable mindset.
I’m old enough to be her grandmother, but am also designing a THOW on a 5th wheel (gooseneck) trailer. Is it possible to get more information about her trailer: how she found it, what she paid for it, did she have to do any modifications, what length is the bed and the overhang?
