This is the story of an INCREDIBLE 500-square-foot little house on a CLIFFTOP with WATER VIEWS in Chile! And it gets even better…

Because according to The Tiny Life, it was built in only 3 months and for only $15,000 USD. The home is designed just the way I would want my own home, with a covered patio separating two portions of the house.

In this case, one end of the house is the bed and bath, while the other side is the living space and kitchen. If you work from home and have a family, this kind of design would be absolutely PERFECT, don’t you think?

This small home couldn’t be situated in a better spot. It must feel unbelievable to live there. I’m envious!

Don’t you just want to be that dog? Joking aside, isn’t this unbelievable? You can just sit there with your feet dangling…

I absolutely love the floor to ceiling windows that let you completely enjoy the magnificent view.

Just how I imagined… Feet dangling 🙂

Simple yet so elegant. Mostly because of where it’s situated. According to Ryan’s post, this house was built in Chile for just $15,000 in USD. I’m sure that figure doesn’t include the cost of land and permits though.

It doesn’t get much better than this. In the photo below you can get a shot of the wood-burning stove right by what I believe to be the kitchen.

Below is a photo of the bathroom which to me feels like a relaxing sauna. It’s SO ZEN!

Finally, you can see what the house looks like from a bit of a distance. As you can see the deck area is not covered but that can easily be done if you wanted to.

Take a gander at the floor plan below:

So what do you think of the split level design like this? Is this something you would consider for your tiny or small house?

It could even work with two tiny houses on wheels and possibly and adjoining deck. Kind of like this and this.

Big thanks to Ryan over at the Tiny Life for finding and sharing this.

I’m not grasping how that dining table seats 6 people, but the floor plan is great. Love the location and bet it’s a fabulous place to spend the day.

We just returned to the States from living in Costa Rica. Probably no permits were necessary for this building which is common in Central and South America. Also, we recently looked at a 1/2 acre view lot overlooking the Pacific Ocean (amazing views) near the Ballena Parque Nacional which was $39,000 US. Easy build, too. Ocean views in Costa Rica can still be amazingly affordable and the lifestyle is beyond wonderful…..pura vida!

Curious as to the material on the roof- perhaps random, overlapped pieces of slate- bonded with?

I don’t think I’d live in it without a rail on the porch. To easy to slip and fall off. Other than that it rather good both in looks and living in.

The dog trot is nice. I’d assume it’s either in a nice climate or only used during season. Not so great on cold areas.

Would work nicely in Fla on stilts to get up in the breeze.

Beautiful! I’d love to live in a house like that, and what a fantastic site!

Love the house and the view. However, Chile is earthquake country – not sure I would sleep well at night with that precarious perch up on the cliff.

My EXACT thoughts too. Same in New Zealand… earthquakes, absolutely no way I’d be living on the edge of a cliff. Especially when you take into account of what happened in Christchurch in 2011… including the Port Hills area.

    Alex,
Thanks for the peek of the house @ the peak! I too would use the idea for a separation of tiny houses. Maybe use as a home base/port for some, I might keep the wheels on but covered with a nice lattice sort of thing to help protect the wheels and for cosmetics. Then when I wanted to leave just leave the middle and one of the tiny houses. Nice.

speechless…best I’ve seen! you can’t beat this with overlook out in the Ocean beach/horizon?!!kinda brave w/o railing though for a steep cliff!..

love the house-I would guess the pier foundation goes down and touches rock. The roof could that be metal shaped to look like slate? Love the wood- also wonder if the wood has been sealed and protected. I would suspect this house has no insulation- with the ocean breeze and a roof for shade who needs it. I am curious about the water supply and the sewer system- by the vegetation it looks like a fairly dry environment. and I hope they reseed the ground around the place.

Only people that are brave, have a death wish, or perhaps a life insurance would build a home in a place like this. Scary..

I think the plan is pretty awesome, BUT, I would have to have rails on that deck. That is a nightmare!

Love to know what the entire project costs arrived at when finished–land and permitting included. $15,000 for building the home sounds like very cheap Chilean labor or completely self-built. Wish I could find out. Nevertheless, the home is outstanding in every way and the setting can’t be beat. Are the residents American? The lab seems very American.

Dang! One of the best feeling designs I’ve seen here. Good taste in dogs too … there’s nuthin’ like a Golden.

In agreement with other comments, I think I’d compromise the view with some sort of railing on the deck … maybe a stainless wire mesh like Jakob makes would not intrude too much.

Also think I’d make it a little bit larger in the living area and maybe a loft for visitors, maybe a covered or enclosed access between the two sides of the structure.

How cool would this be along California’s highway one.

Love this floor plan and using the courtyard/deck as a common area and to separate the bedroom from the rest of the living area.

I have been coming back to this page for literally years, to look at this tinyhouse whenever I need a bit of escapism. I think this is simply breathtaking. Simple, elegant and stunning with a situation that is beyond idyllic.

But as gorgeous as I find it I do wonder about the foundations and if they are anchored to bedrock. I also wonder about the wind, and the gaps in the patio area. Being by the coast, as I am myself, they are gonna get a heck of a breeze. I also hope they have planted the soil to stop erosion.

I totally get the decision to not have a safety rail. But I think I would have to put one in.

put in glass for the rails & you still have the view. like the glass on the house. this place is awsome

I literally love everything about this build! I’m seriously considering moving to Central or South America in the future (10-15 years). I moved to Gainesville, FL almost 5 years ago; however, I don’t recommend living close to or in the Gainesville area because the cost of living in Alachua County has become extremely high but the salaries have not kept up anywhere near the cost of living. Also we’re at least 90 minutes from the closet beach. Florida is becoming expensive to live in period which is why retirement further south might just be the way I go. This house/location would be perfect for my 2 pups and me!

Lovely design. But where is all their “stuff”? I don’t see anywhere for their clothing, hobbies, books? live in a 480 square foot house and storage is the biggest problem.
