What is above the angeled part just below the ceiling?

Nicely done and well priced for its stage of building (the plumbing awaits your completion). But I have a concern about the front door being the only real exit in the event of a fire. The loft windows are definitely too small, and those on the first floor are pretty high off the floor and rather small as well.
Question – what is the purpose of the lidded bench looking item opposite the kitchen?

Woodsy. Not sure a wood shower is a good thing.

The kitchen counters appear to be custom-sized, shallower to give more visual room to the space. Thumbs up!

I thought so too jm-every time I see wood in a shower/ just seems wrong, risky. And too much wood all over after seeing so many beautiful models without every inch being wood…
