Larry contacted us to show us his gorgeous creation, the Casa Maria. He built this vacation home about four years ago in Costa Rica for less than $60,000.
Including the loft space, the home comes to 764 square feet. It’s built out of cypress wood and has asphalt roofing. Underneath the neatly curved roofline of the house are a carport and laundry room. The main living space is wide-open with couches, a fireplace, kitchenette, and pool table. There’s a bedroom and a bathroom, as well. Enjoy the photo tour of Larry’s wonderful small home!

This is beautiful! Love this home.
As much as Costa Rica construction can be inexpensive, there is no way you could put this up for $60k–not even if you did it yourself and all the help was free.
It is very lovely and has a professional architectural design in itself worth many thousands which we won’t count.
Yeah, it would seem unlikely, especially as Costa Rica has some of the toughest and most stringent building codes in the world. Everything is built to the seismic code that allows a house to withstand an 8 point earthquake… But that’s why they can be hit by a 7.2 and then go about their day like nothing happened…
Though, it’s still possible to build within $100 per Sq Ft, just usually won’t look anywhere near as nice as this… But it is a small structure and it looks like it’s built like a cabin, meaning no insulation, etc.
See my comment to David above. And yes, Casa Maria is well insulated.

Costs I’m willing to believe, not easy to achieve there but it can be done… But well insulated, nope. Especially not with the roof and all the glass you used in the design…
Probably has good thermal mass, though, and is in a good location with low temperature variations… So probably works fine for anyone staying there, being by the equator has it’s advantages and not all structures need to be well insulated to work well in the environment they are designed for…

No matter the cost the home looks beautiful, the builder done a great job and if it can with stand the weather and earthquakes then job well done…
