Bus Turned Into Mobile Classroom For Economically Disadvantaged Students

Kimberly had a great idea for a way to provide access to e-learning from disadvantaged students: She took a 1995 school bus she bought in June and transformed it into the Mobile Academic Classroom (MAC).

The “mobile classroom” features six learning stations, a teacher’s station (for younger children), a mini library, encyclopedias, an assortment of learning tools, school supplies, noise cancelling headphones, educational CD’s, DVD’s., laptops, two flat screen televisions, and it’s all WI-FI accessible. The MAC will travel to school neighborhood sites in Ohio, each week, with scheduled hours of operation slated for Monday – Friday, between 9 a.m. and 6 pm.

“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the needs of the nation’s most economically disadvantaged children have exacerbated due to virtual learning limitations, technological divides with many poor households lacking computer and internet access. Additionally, with library shutdowns, vital resource materials which students need to supplement their learning capacity, has had a highly detrimental impact on poor and urban students,” Kimberly said.

What a great idea! Check it out below.

This is incredible. Disadvantaged Students need a place like this. You will be very rewarded for this. What a incredible feeling looking at this gave me. We have a lot that truly care. Up here kids are very distraught about the schools not open. they miss their friends and we had kids that took their life. Makes me sad that a kid would do that. Wish we had something like this. Our country does go out of their way to feed people here and do help them as much as they can. This is awesome.

What an excellent and thoughtful way to help others during the pandemic!!! Bravo to you for undertaking this idea!!! It is a great way to make learning accessible to anyone.

I would love to see something like this for Northern Communities up here in Canada — especially for Indigenous Communities, so that young people at risk have something to look forward to.

This would be an excellent solution.

Hello, Kimberly! I am a certified teacher but have had my own private school for nearly nine years and just closed in January. I’m on Pinterest researching to create something similar to this. It looks amazing!! Are you willing to share more details such as bus size, etc. with me? I would greatly appreciate it! I’d be willing to share some ideas with you as well.
