Brilliantly Designed Small Apartment Has Everything You Need to Live and Work

This post contains affiliate links.

Now here’s a brilliantly designed small apartment in East Village area of Manhattan in New York City.

Michael, the apartment owner, uses the space as both home and office which makes the 500-square-feet all that much tighter.

I also work and live out of my apartment which is about 450-square-feet while sharing it with my girlfriend as well.

The amazing part about Michael’s space is the enormous amount of storage that he has created which is illustrated at the bottom of this post.

All of this storage space allows the apartment to be a home instead of a workplace quite easily when friends or family visit.

There’s even an upstairs sleeping loft but thanks to the tall ceilings inside it doesn’t look like it feels cramped at all. In fact, there’s plenty of lighting set up and it looks roomy and comfortable throughout.

What I thought might be one of your favorite parts of the design is the staircase that leads up to the loft because it has built-in drawers underneath each step.

Jordan Parnass Digital Architecture helped with the project to make it what it is. It’s best to watch the video tour at the bottom of this post to grasp a feel of what they were able to do with this small apartment conversion.

I encourage you to see the rest of it below:

If you’ve been following Tiny House Talk for a while, you might remember when I featured this apartment back in 2010. This time around you’ll also get to enjoy a video tour at the bottom.

The white color really seems to help make the place feel spacious and well lit.

I love how the designers did not miss one opportunity to create seamless storage like in the stairs above.

Up in the sleeping loft, there’s even more storage and the color scheme remains the same.

Small Apartment with Guests

The living room doubles as a workspace as you can see below. And there’s plenty of storage to keep everything out of sight when you have visitors. It’s perfect.

There’s a drawer that slides out underneath the desk so if you have anything that you were working on you can just slide that out and you’re right where you left off without having to clutter up the rest of the space.

Kitchen

The kitchen is just as beautiful as the rest of the home with stainless steel appliances.

Kitchen

The bathroom is also very modern and luxurious just like the kitchen:

Bathroom

I love how the faucet is installed onto the wall just like in moth showers. I think this helps it look better but also saves a little bit of space which is always important in a small space.

I love this appartment with it’s cool white and timber combination and now there’s a video to see how it all really works – love it. Especially love the bedspace, can imagine enjoying a good book there or snuggling under the blankets.

Where did you purchase your washer/dryer?

Nice modern look but I would arrange it differently to have more room in the loft to move around the bed. I have an office work space upstairs in my bedroom loft with full desk and numerous shelves and cabinets. That works well for a person that works from home.

I have liked this design from the first moment I saw it. I really like how creative some of these folks have been really thinking outside of their NYC boxes.

It is a solution with modular compartments in wood that create different service areas and functional spaces or disappering like the sleeping area because you can stand. For many reason, there are solutions that attract, penetrating spontaneously within us and inevitably touch our sensibilities.

I’m usually unmoved by modern, but this is exceptional. Nicely done!

I especially like how the shelf pulls out below the drawer so you can fold your clothes right there. Less wrinkles. Would work great in a tiny home. I don’t believe I have seen it in any of the tiny home plans I have looked at.
