Having a washer and dryer in the same room is a big Nope from me as is having a toilet mere inches away from my bed, pocket door or no.
I was impressed until walking through the door through the bathroom but with so much floor space devoted to the open living areas I understand there are tradeoffs. Pity these are the ones opted. 🙁
Oooh I had a washer/dryer in our closet in one of our homes and I absolutely LOVED it. Made it so easy to wash/dry and put away clothing!

I don’t understand how Tiny Houses went from $10 to $12 thousand to a whopping $130 thousand!! You can buy a pretty big house for $130,000. Sad that they have ruined a good thing.
I agree Arlene, a few years back when i started wanting a tiny house it was because of them being so affordable….now i cant afford one…
No, costs are just always going to depend what’s put into it, how it’s done, and just about anything can range from low to high cost because of that… This is true of all houses, regardless of size…
So equivalency has to be understood… Like you may be able to get a larger house for $130K in some parts of the country but it won’t be anywhere near as well built or custom built specifically for an owner, among other differences… Large homes actually built this way typically start around 50% more expensive to build but can run over 4 times as much and run into the millions on the actual high end of what can be done, for an apples to apples comparison…
Existing homes are also typically going to be cheaper than built new homes, similar to how buying something old and used will typically be cheaper than buying new. Not all of the cost of constructing a new property gets passed on to the next owner…
Just like anything else, cars, boats, furniture, phones, etc. You will find homes that will fit a very wide range of prices… There’s very little that can’t be increased in cost by adding more features, higher quality, going bigger, better materials, etc.
Even in the RV market they can go all the way up to over $3 million!
Thus those who understand how costs actually work can choose to make a Tiny Houses for as little as a few thousand, there just needs to be a reality check for what’s required to achieve that goal, what you’re actually getting at the price range, and an understanding why different people will invest different amounts into their home.
Everything just has trade offs, houses are not all equal no matter what you call them, and people are too diverse to have a one size fits all that will make everyone happy…
Seriously, even if you can’t DIY, there’s a number of budget builders out there. Like Incredible Tiny Homes in Newport, TN has a budget model they call an RJO that starts at $20K and has a kit option that brings it down to $15K… So there’s really a wide range of options, just don’t confuse budget from high end and expect everything to cost the same no matter how different they are in what goes into them and how they’re done because there are reasons for costs that have to be understood in order to be an informed consumer/buyer…
Very well said. I’m always baffled when people complain about the price of high end tiny homes. They can alway be built smaller and cheaper.

The sad thing about tiny homes above that $100,000 mark is that they are no longer a road to financial freedom. I recognize the craftsmanship in them, and I love the look of them, but you do not grow value on your investment. In fact, it is similar to car buying–you lose value over time. At 63 I cannot afford to purchase something I cannot purchase outright, and I cannot afford to lose money on a home investment.
