Barbara’s Baluchon Tiny House with Folding Step-Stool Built-In

This post contains affiliate links.

Barbara wanted a tiny house for full-time living, and the name “Orana” comes from the Tahitian word for “hello.” And her Baluchon-built tiny home on wheels is most definitely welcoming!

Huge sliding doors lead into the living room, with a couch and desk area for working-from-home. The kitchen is compact (no refrigerator, per the owner’s request), and the bathroom has a large standing shower and corner composting toilet. Enjoy the tour below!

This is “sweet”! Love the wood, the esp. large windows, the bedroom loft. Only change for me would be a bit of a larger desk and love the kitchen but must have a fridge!!! (The little pull out stool is great)!!

The Klarstein freezer is listed among the appliances and can be seen under the counter to the right of the sink, just above the bottom drawer…

The stool is a commercial product from Hideaway Solutions, the Step 180 Plus, which costs about $595.00 – $615.00… If you’re interested in getting one, and it’s called 180 because it can fold out in either side direction to help reach both those upper cabinets but still store away in that one spot…

Seldom do I say it, and I must say for good reason, but man that stool is S H E E R G E N I U S. But it sure is expensive.

Unfortunately, that’s true of many space saving furniture manufacturers. There’s a lot out there that would be wonderful to use in smaller spaces but many of them charge a very high premium and there’s presently not enough competition to bring that down…

Though, if you have access to a CNC you could probably just carve this out of a thick sheet of plywood and install hinges for a more reasonable price… The full extension slide out rail will probably be the hardest component to find but something similar could be improvised to get it to work…

Right? I didn’t realize until James commented that it was so pricey!!

I’m assuming that the HWH is on the kitchen/bath wall – too bad it couldn’t be mounted outside or on the floor/ceiling triangle area above the bathroom door, would have made room for at least some open shelving. Don’t understand why no refrigerator but to each their own – a solid half wall in the loft could have provided some more shelving for clothing storage bins, books etc. An overhead fan could cool the entire place and circulate heat as well – and yes, the stool is cool

It’s small but the Klarstein freezer is listed among the appliances and can be seen under the counter to the right of the sink, just above the bottom drawer…

Mind, France and many European countries have different standards for the kitchen and food storage. Like most of the world doesn’t refrigerate eggs and milk, for example… How they pasteurize the milk, allows it to last longer than the process used in the states and they use a different system to ensure the eggs are safe to eat as well that actually benefits by not refrigerating them…

They’re also used to smaller kitchens and aren’t as reliant on high energy appliances like microwaves, etc. Along with usually being more traditional in food shopping, with farmer markets, etc. eating fresh foods more often and even on a daily basis…
