We haven’t posted any shipping container homes in awhile, so I was excited to come across this gem that’s a vacation rental in Austin, Texas. The dusty blue exterior makes way for a sleek interior lined with lots of galvanized metal.
The home features a studio-style set-up, with a queen bed tucked at one end, and a separate bathroom complete with a rainfall shower and flush toilet on the other end.
There’s a little kitchenette and seating area in the middle, where you’ll find a mini-fridge, microwave, sink, toaster oven and the all-important coffee-maker. Book your stay at HipCamp.

This is nice. Cute. Hope they take the rug in when it rains? Is a real nice home. To small for me. Kitchen is very small. Even if I was single I have always rented places with a big kitchen. I do love to cook. Is very pretty inside of this home. Bathroom is real nice.
They do make indoor-outdoor rugs that can withstand rain, which is pretty neat!

Say what?? Oh, did you mean to say ( the sliders have shades ) ??
The trouble with containers is that they get awfully hot in summer and incredibly cold in winter due to the lack of insulation.
That’s only true if they’re not well insulated but that is also one of the reasons they can cost more than some think they should…

Well, where do I start. “Bamboo Hideaway”…did I miss the bamboo part? Wonderful job on the inside, but not a place I would want to stay or live. The shipping container…is that supposed to be “shabby chic….”, it just looks shabby and unfinished. Very industrial looking, with little softness. Thick cement, shipping container, galvanized metal, great for a man cave. Perhaps they had a reason for so much metal inside, but wouldn’t it be hot in summer, and cold in winter? Does not appear to be insulated. Normally, I am not too critical, even if it is not to my taste, but renting this out to the possibly unknowing, I get picky.
Bamboo Hideaway is the name of the location, camp ground area… Part of why it’s listed under HipCamp and they mention a hiking trail.
While it’s a rental property, you would only go there for short stays and not to live there. The point is access to the location so you can enjoy the outdoor activities available there.
Rustic/Industrial is also a popular style. Especially, as it’s usually pretty affordable… But it is insulated and has a Mini-Split for heating and cooling…
It is absolutely insulated and climate-controlled. The mini split does a fine job in all seasons and the screens on the windows are available for the in-between seasons.
We created this as a basic home base for my husband and myself once we’re empty-nesters. We love that it’s simple so folx can “try on” a simpler, less-cluttered life. It’s really cozy once inside. You should check out the reviews on Airbnb! We’re really proud of our little Hideaway amongst bamboo. (It’s the view from the porch.)
