Do you want to build an inviting home that’s simple, functional and affordable? The Kozy Kabin Tiny House Plans from Dee Williams at PAD Tiny Houses could be just what you’re looking for.

While many tiny homes on wheels are getting larger, fancier and more complex, the Kozy Kabin keeps its simple roots. At 14 feet long, it’s 84 square feet on the main floor, plus a sleeping loft of about 40 square feet. There’s no running water, no dedicated bathroom, and Dee always ran it on just a “smidge” of solar electric power, but she was happy enough there for 12 years.

Dee famously built the original Kozy Kabin tiny house for $10,000 in 2004. She was able to build on a budget using tons of salvaged materials and putting in around four (unpaid) hours of time on its construction for three months. To build this house yourself today, budget for a construction cost anywhere between $15,000 and $25,000 depending on material choices.

Dee teaches tiny house workshops twice a year to help DIY tiny house builders work safe and smart, and always encourages others to customize their homes to their own needs and even the dimensions of their own bodies. Dee’s interior layout of a loft, built-in bench, and simple kitchen with a water jug, sink and single burner stove is suggested in the plans. But to make customization easier, PAD is offering the SketchUp file for the design as well!

As the builder of one of the first tiny homes on wheels out there, Dee has shared her home with millions online and with thousands in person. She even wrote a whole book about it: 2014’s The Big Tiny. Here’s one of our favorite video tours of Dee’s house:

Dee recently gave her original Kozy Kabin Tiny House to her nephew, and moved into an even-smaller home also of her own design – the 56-square foot Don Vardo Tiny House. But she wanted to send the Kozy Kabin off with a bang. So after driving it to Colorado and opening it for tours at the Tiny House Jamboree, the last step in the goodbye was to make the Kozy Kabin plans available for a new generation of DIY builders.

I’m curious about the wall heater, it looks as though it might be electric as there is the plug under it, but it looks like it has a little chimney as well… gas?
    thanks!

It would be nice to have a hot shower, though….in your own house…:) plus I wonder why she’s going even smaller.

Susanne, Dee explains her reasons for going tinier here:
      https://padtinyhouses.com/why-go-tinier/
Additionally, Dee has some serious heart issues and is 10 years older than when she built/moved into her tiny house. I think the loft bed may become (or is becoming) an issue. She has a good sized dog that sleeps with her, so she has to get the dog up and down that ladder, too. Dee already owned the vardo and had used it as an office. I guess the vardo made for an easy way to take on the challenge of tinier, and I’ve read somewhere that she is going to tweak the vardo (a toilet and a “kitchen”). She is an inspiration.

All I can say is WOW WOW WOW. Love this. The wood is absolutely beautiful. Love your sink and your design choices. Very cozy, homey and just plain beautiful! All I would need to bring would be a few patchwork quilts I made.

    Hello,
I just spent $49 on the Kozy Kabin plans from PAD. However, they did not come with a Sketchup file. And PAD doesn’t seem to return emails.
