Annelies’ $19000 Recycled Tiny Home in NZ

This post contains affiliate links.

Annelies used recycled materials from the 2011 earthquake in New Zealand to build her own Tiny House on Wheels for just $19,000.

She’s a furniture-maker, and thought building a tiny would use many of the same skills, but she said the house challenged her, for sure! It features a lovely weathered exterior and a quaint cottage feel on the inside, complete with a lovely old-fashioned wood stove/oven!

You can learn more about her house in a video tour with Living Big in a Tiny House posted below, and by checking out their website here.

Well done young lady…! You have done an out standing job on building your tiny house … This just further supports my theory that it should not cost a small fortune to build tiny houses….

Not if you can do it yourself 🙂

    Greetings Annelies
Thank you for sharing your story. I appreciate the work you have done – from design to finish. Congratulations on being more than your fear, for stepping into the project.

As I have shared many times in my handyman career, building is a “series of approximations”. You said something like, it was a series of smaller bits – which is so true.

I also appreciate your humility expressed in the interview as well as you express it in your home. It certainly is NOT anonymous.

Blessings always. Neil – a “hope to have a tiny home” handyman/builder.

Absolutely amazing what you have done. It’s gorgeous! And there are so many special details that make it yours. Great job! Enjoy your life there!

Wow, this is gorgeous, way to go! Did you do that Japanese burning technique on the outside boards (can’t remember the name just now but love the effect). Love the wood and the pullouts going up the stairs. I think it’s beautiful.

First, congratulations on a fabulous & inspiring build. I love this one! Has a very homey feel to it & came out really well (beautiful) using recycled materials. I noticed the purpose built trailer frame which IMO is the best approach & looked high quality. I like the couch/pull out frame/bed as it’s an easy conversion from couch to bed & simple to build. I don’t recall seeing a clothes drying rack with a pulley to elevate, nice! Solar to boot. Again, wonderful job !

I really appreciated the y-tube interview. Hopefully this inspires those wanting to build but doubting their abilities. Remember, nobody was able to build a tiny or anything, until they built one. With the internet & all the free educational resources out there, just do it!

And the first one (as far as I have seen) with a shower dome, essential in a tiny house I would say!
