That staircase design is absolutely BRILLIANT!

As a Kiwi the only thing wrong with it is it was designed by an Australian… but total Kudos to him. Sheer design brilliance…

      More the entrepreneur…

Actually was created by Designer Aaron Tang…

Who showcased the concept back in 2007…

Oh, and since Aaron’s design has been on Pinterest and other sites for years, there are also a couple of DIY versions like this one…

Sorry James D. but that design does not even come close as it uses mechanical help from air or hydraulic cylinders to operate! so I think this one totally stands on its own merit in fact the movement is not even alike in any way shape or form!
        Go check it out.

Sorry Ed, but that doesn’t change the origin of the design and the fact it’s doing the same thing… Nor the fact others have copied the idea as well with their own twists on how it works.

The original just wasn’t a commercial product and was just a prototype to demonstrate the concept. So it was like an art piece, allowing it be seen and operated without anyone needing to touch it as the point was to start discussion and thoughts on the concept, which it clearly did…

There’s nothing wrong with someone taking a concept and turning it into a product. Let’s just not pretend they invented it from scratch when they didn’t. This commercial version is just manually operated and uses spring assisted pulley instead of hydraulics… The basis of the design is still the hinges that allows it to fold flat against the wall…

The main change is actually the addition of the hand rail but that’s to be expected in a commercially sold product like this…

That staircase looks safer than most in tiny homes. But, that chair! What an in genius design, you could have several of those chairs hanging on the wall and just pop them out when needed. Plus, they look comfortable.

All I can say is Wow! What a clever idea. Necessity is the mother of invention, as they say, and it seems this gentleman has figured out a new way to have steps out of the way when not needed and handy when needed. Kudos!

Dear Sirs: I own a tiny house 12×24. I am searching for a retractable or folding staircase that is at least somewhat attractive. Do have anything that might be available? Thank you for your kind attention to this matter. Heath A. Brewer, Paradis , PA, USA 484-643-0184
