Tony used all his savings to buy a shipping container back in 2017. He had zero construction experience but was sure it’d take him about 3 months to convert the container into a home. Instead, he worked extra and then spent his weekends — for 9 months — seeing his plan come to fruition. In the end, he spent $13K on an impressive tiny house, even though it took longer than he expected. When his video tour went viral on YouTube, he found himself in the position to start a tiny house company.
Now he has an entire business and has built more than 100 container homes and has even done a van conversion. He offers DIY classes online and has really made a name for himself in the tiny world. Not nice deceiving with a title like that Natilie. All we got was someone who took a bad idea and made some money from it.
It is Nothing about the history of alternative housing, just a very tiny not great part of very recent
history.
While containers sound great, reality is very different. Since made from steel they are too hot or too cold energy wasters.
To rectify that is as much or more work, material, cost and lose interior space vs building far better from scratch.
The shape, size limits design freedom leading to many bad compromises. Containers is an example of what not to do making a tiny home.
Making THs is a great business we need more of.
But we need better designs instead of gimmicks and need to be energy efficient, not badly wasteful.
Making alternative homes is something which I’ve been doing 45 yrs now, long before 2017 which is a baby company, not historic.
No, “Alternative Living Spaces” is just the name of the builder’s company. You should actually read the article and watch the video before commenting!
