I thought I’d share this tiny house community that’s been around for more than 100 years in Toronto with you.
It started many years ago when for less than 100 dollars you could buy a lot and you were sold the lumber to build your own home.
It is located in Craven Road in Toronto and the houses are all under 500 square feet.

Amazing that the street has survived this long with all the real estate pressure. I guess the small lots helped with that. In Whitehorse Yukon there are a lot of tiny and small houses downtown and around the edge of the downtown area, close to the clay cliffs. Some of the “larger” houses also had laneway houses. There’s even a two and three story log skyscraper with each floor a separate tiny apartment. There used to be a lot more tiny houses in various “squatter” areas but most of those areas were cleared for developments. http://historicplaces.ca/en/rep-reg/place-lieu.aspx?id=1903 shows the skyscrapers and a couple of other nearby heritage tinies.

Holy cow, I found a picture of my old house in Whitehorse on Panoramio! (Link Removed) It’s a log main floor with PWF foundation and frame upstairs. 18×32, with an apartment in the basement. I designed and subcontracted the shell and finished the inside with a lot of help from friends and family. Lots of misadventures and crazy stuff with the city and building inspectors but it all worked out. I think that’s when my hair turned grey.
