THIS IS NOT A TINY HOUSE!!!

16 feet by 32 feet… fits “my” definition of a tiny house. Obviously not yours though. Oh, and no need to shout.

      • January 8, 2020, 7:44 am

Not shouting. The bold print is to get your attention. Before you classify something, you should do your homework to be sure that classification is correct. Otherwise, you make yourself appear to be lacking in intelligence. Oh, and I do like the small house. But that doesn’t make it a TINY HOUSE either. Nor is it an A FRAME, or even a CABIN. Have a great day.

First, you should know that Bold Print in online comments = Shouting! So by online etiquette you were shouting!

Second, doing your homework goes both ways as you shouldn’t try to correct something unless you’re sure it’s incorrect first. Facts are absolutes and you should never apply that to things that aren’t absolutes, such as opinions, which is what you’re actually expressing here…

Let’s be clear, there’s no actual universal definition of tiny houses as it’s relative to what people consider tiny and that will vary. The only reason most focus on 400 Sq Ft and less is because that is what has been illegal for decades, with a primary focus on mobile homes, but the reality is anything people consider tiny can be called tiny!

Like it or not most people consider a house on a foundation that’s 1000 Sq Ft or less as tiny. Seriously, there’s many examples you can look up where structures under 1000 Sq Ft are called tiny houses. Like TV shows like Tiny House Nation have had homes over 750 Sq Ft and there’s other examples like ADU’s can be 800 Sq Ft or less, among yet other examples where the term Tiny House is used to describe them.

There’s also a wide range of Cabin types and many of them can overlap other types of structures… So let’s not confuse facts with opinions… You can disagree but you can’t call it wrong when it’s opinion…

You have a great day too.

This is not a A-Frame. This is house with a 50-53% pitched roof.

No, a A-Frame doesn’t have to be all the way to the ground or have to be that steep. Check out the Bennati House, in Lake Arrowhead, California. It’s architect Rudolph Schindler’s original A-frame design from 1934…

      • January 8, 2020, 7:52 am

That doesn’t make it an A FRAME. If a house is tall, does that make it sky scraper??? Not hardly.

        • James D.
          January 8, 2020, 10:06 am

Sorry but what defines an A-Frame just isn’t as strict as you seem to be thinking. Many architects have made similar designs as this one and called it an A-Frame because it only has to have certain design elements to be called an A-Frame…

Besides, it’s silly to compare a house this close to the ideal A-Frame as a tall house to a skyscraper but just to prove a point houses, unless zoned with height restrictions, can actually be built to any height and if built to be a continuously habitable high-rise building that has over 40 floors and is taller than approximately 150 m (492 ft) then it would be valid to call it a skyscraper because that is all it requires…

The limits of architecture and the vernacular used to describe them are actually pretty flexible and just like language it can even evolve over time. Just don’t confuse one interpretation with there being no other or the unlikely with the impossible…

Technically every house is a sky scraper… as the sky is the air around us and it goes all the way to the ground. Learnt that many years ago in a science lesson. But… it is most certainly not what most people would classify as a sky scraper.

So question, if an A frame house were to be built upside down… would that make it a V frame house?

Yes, the Bennati house is an A-Frame but I was referring to the house in this article which is not.

Again, no, you missed the point that there are many examples of A-Frames with different designs and that includes roof pitches!

A-Frames basically only have to look like a letter A, which is where they get their name, but just like fonts that can be interpreted differently by different builders and architects around the world. So they do not have to be a specific pitch and if you look at how they’re done around the world you’ll find many variations…

Basically, don’t confuse or automatically assume what you’re used to with what actually defines something to everyone in the world and throughout history…

I think it’s a great little home and yes, I’d still consider it small. The main part of the house is less than 600 sq ft. It’s at a decent price too!

I don’t understand why everyone has to get so technical. It is what it is! I like it. I wish it was on the East Coast.
