Matheu and Taylor live in a custom Tumbleweed tiny house with their one dog, two cats, and their turtle! They have a wonderful parking spot at Island Cove Park in Durango, Colorado, which keeps them close to the city but still gives them a more affordable living situation.
They had been living in a three-bedroom home, but when they tried out a smaller apartment, they realized just how little they needed! Matheu “built” a tiny house on the Tumbleweed website and when Taylor got home he presented the plan. They love living tiny, and you’ll love their tour below.

While we show off plenty of homes built in a couple of months or even a couple of years, this might be the first one we’ve featured that took a full decade from start to finish! Patrick purchased the Tumbleweed plans and the trailer nearly 10 years ago, and since he was working full-time and doing everything himself, he took his time in finishing the build.
Once he decided to retire and found the perfect plot of land for his home, he decided to wrap up the building process and move in. He ended up building a deck and a small workshop, but has big dreams of creating a large workshop for his woodworking. Just wait until you see the awesome slide-out staircase that takes him to his loft bedroom.

Tumbleweed is giving away four tiny house plans for free! If you’re interested in building your own tiny house, looking at tiny house plans, and just learning what it might entail to build a tiny house, these 20-ft. tiny house plans from Tumbleweed could really come in handy someday when you are ready to build!
The plans that are free (normally $759 each) are the Mica 20, Linden 20, Cypress 20, and Elm 20 building plans. I have always wanted to build a Tumbleweed Mica 20 tiny house, so I almost jumped out of my chair and went ahead and registered for the free plans download from Tumbleweed. While the Tumbleweed brand might conjure up images of the “original” THOW with a little gable roof and 2×2 front porch, this 2015 Mica model has a much more modern bent. All on one level, you walk into the living room/bedroom area.
There’s a little L-shaped kitchen with an induction cooktop and plenty of cabinetry. In fact, for just 160 square feet, this tiny home has a lot of storage — even a full-sized closet! The little bathroom has a Nature’s Head and a fiberglass shower stall. It’s for sale in Mattoon, Illinois for $62,000.

Jim got in touch with us to show us his Tumbleweed Cypress shell that he built back in 2014 on a 20′ Tumbleweed Titan trailer. He did an awesome job with such attention to detail, and now he is ready for it to go to someone who can finish off the inside.
While he did sneak a shower stall into the build before closing off the walls, the rest of the interior is unfinished (no plumbing or electrical). The Cypress is Tumbleweed’s most popular model, and for a good reason. It’s the “classic” tiny house with a kitchen/bathroom under the loft bedroom and the living space in the front near the itty-bitty porch. It’s almost like a piece of tiny house history! Jim’s selling the shell for $20K.
