After his divorce, Tom was looking for a new purpose and focus for his life, and he remembered how much he loved camping. Eventually, his camping trips turned into full-time living from an incredible former Yellowstone ambulance, which he converted into a home on wheels.

He has the coolest convertible bathroom in his ambulance, which he cleverly designed so he can still walk through from the cab to his house. His bed is full-sized when traveling alone, but it pulls out into a queen when his partner joins him. Watch the tour of this cool rig below.

If you’ve been reading Tiny House Talk for a while, you might remember Heather and Dana, a couple who renovated an RV to live as nomads. Well, when a tree later fell on the RV, their plans shifted, and they went back to “normal” life for a while—until the call of the road pulled them back!

Below, we’ll show you their new rig, a fantastic off-grid, off-roading house truck built on a wildland firetruck chassis. Keep scrolling to hear Heather and Dana share their story and the great features their expedition truck offers…..

Daniel and Alejandra live in the Orlando Lakefront Tiny House Community in Florida in their own DIY tiny house, “Skylight.” The name comes from the two giant 8-foot skylights that take up more than half of the roof! Letting in so much natural light helps make the space so much brighter.

Daniel built the house on a trailer from an old RV, found the skylights on Marketplace, and reclaimed the spiral staircase from a pontoon. The home has an incredible kitchen and gorgeous closet storage in the bathroom. You’ll notice the color scheme is white and beige, which intentionally kept the space extra open. What do you think of this tiny house design?

After teaching in the Virgin Islands for seven years, Jana was ready to change things up, but not ready to “settle down” in the traditional sense. Instead, she’s redefining her nomadic life in her self-built ambulance as “settling down” — this is her home, and she loves her life! Even if her family thinks she’s crazy for doing it.

Amazingly, Jana only spent $19,000 making her home on wheels a reality. It includes a bathroom, office space, and even a “party bin” under her bed where she keeps several exciting costumes! Her kitchen has a DIY sink (she doesn’t recommend it) and a propane oven salvaged from a vintage RV. Jana is so much fun and her tour is sure to make you smile.

After traveling the world with nothing but a backpack, living tiny was nothing new to Gemma. But building a tiny house from the trailer up? Well, that was a whole new challenge, but one she met gladly with the help of her dad.

She has a whole off-grid set-up, including solar panels, a rainwater catchment system, and a composting toilet. Recycled materials helped keep costs down, such as donated insulation, and she chose to use MDF instead of plywood to further save money. You’re going to love the tour of this creative space!

In 2020, Anton found himself building out a van conversion, largely because some of his best friends were jumping into vanlife, and “you are who your friends are.” Three years ago he couldn’t even hang a picture, but you’d never know based on the incredible rig you’ll see below.

He chose bamboo for the interior, and while the wood alone cost nearly $6K, it leaves the van with such a professional finish! Anton is a music teacher and now builds luxury vans on the side. Enjoy his amazing tour below.

Joey’s story isn’t one you’d expect — he nailed the “dream job” of working in mechanical and biomedical engineering for the FBI in Washington, D.C. — and then realized it wasn’t for him! He got a different job working as a software engineer that ended up going remote in 2020 — and before he knew it, Joey was buying and converting a van.

He’s lived in the van you’ll see below for three years on and off. In the “off” time, he’s been backpacking around the world, living even more simply than he does in his rig. He designed it to stand up to all kinds of weather, and just wait until you see the neat way he included a shower, closet, and pantry into his home on wheels.
