This is part of the Tiny House Hotel in Portland, OR. I wonder why they are selling it…?

Not sure exactly why, it’s been there for years though. Maybe they want space for a new one they’re getting? Not sure! 😀

I agree, in spite of how nice it looks-30K is too much. At that price, it should have a lot more perks, regardless of space. Tiny homes usually call for a lot of customization. So, I am going to work on building my own in the stealth variety to save on costs and get what I want. I really want one of these but spending so much on one as the most popular seem to cost, only to have some government entity say it’s not allowed, annoys me. If I use a cargo trailer or food truck/trailer, those seem to run $2000 in my area and come partly finished. In the event Big Brother pushes through the proposal limiting how people use tiny homes or other RVs, the more costly homes will seem costly indeed.

So this thing isn’t insulated at all? The ceiling looks like no

Looks like it has 1-½ of insulation to me. The periling run flat against the metal but looking at the inside pics they run perpendicular to the ceiling. Must be nailed together in a “T” shape to give strength and backing for the ceiling materials to be attached.

I have to agree that the price is a tad high. It’s a beautiful house, but has no real living area, nowhere for one to sit with a friend and talk except the table across from the kitchen. The only other place is to climb into the loft. I have discovered after living tiny for almost 4 years altogether now, that a living space is vital to being happy in a tiny home, a place to put your feet up and watch a movie without having to climb down to use the bathroom or get a drink of water. Otherwise, it is a lovely home. Is there any insulation in that ceiling? Wish I could see more pictures o the outside, especially the other end of the tiny house. I would price it at about $18,000.

Not bad, albeit a tad small. Looks like nice woodworking. Agree about the high price, and looking like no insulation. But those stairs really look like they’re going to be difficult, especially in the night.

Way too small and way too expensive. Does it come with land or something? Not sure how they are justifying the price. That adds up to $375 per square foot.

It is part of Tiny House Hotel, just checked out their website. It’s mentioned they are selling to bring in another one. also saw somewhere that it said price was reduced to 25k and also that it had the biggest bed there….a king….How cool would it be to own a little town like this…… 🙂

This is cute—and the size I have to build, but without the big funds. I am looking for material that will curve with the roof, and looking for insulation (for Vermont winters) that is flexible to curve it, with good R Value. Your ideas? thanks

      Bonna,

You might consider TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) as a material for your curved roof. If you are building a small structure you may be able to cover the entire roof with 1 piece. This material is being used quite a bit now for commercial roofs. Thicker is better & the thickest I have found is an 80 mil TPO I’ll link below. Heck, there are plastic pond liner materials designed to hold water that are only 45 mil thick to give you a reference point. While the material can have good reflective qualities there doesn’t appear to be much insulation value & insulation should mainly be incorporated into the structure anyway. This material requires very little maintenance & TPO roof membranes can be either mechanically fastened o fastened using an adhesive.

This is a new arena for me…
What is “Big Brother’s” role in this as far as restrictions for Tiny Home use?

What is the space under the loft being used for? I see a wall there, but what is behind the wall? That space has to be the same size as the loft.

That was my main question: what’s in all that space under the bed/loft? I’d have been inclined to put the bathroom there, which would open up all that space just inside the door. As it is, the narrow hallway looks claustrophobic. I’d also want a much larger window in the loft, for ventilation. That space is probably stifling in the summer… 🙁

On second look: are there TWO lofts & beds in this? There are two different windows shown, I think. It would make sense, looking again, if there are TWO beds with matching quilts, one maybe twin size and with the larger window, above the kitchen end of the house, and the other, with the king-size bed, in a loft over the bathroom and entry hallway, and with a much smaller window. If that’s the case, there’s a much smaller space behind that back wall under the smaller bed (I’m guessing all the utilities, water tank/heater, etc.?), and what’s under the advertised “king-size bed” is the bathroom and hallway (i.e.: over half the house’s overall floor space).
        Still seems a high price for a second-hand ultra-tiny home, though…

I don’t think the price is too high. It’s very well built and looks so nice. I’ve been watching Tiny Luxury and see that if you want a good house, you have to pay for it. And the one who built it should receive some compensation, too.

If you want cheap, you have to do all or most of the work yourself. Recently, my husband who is a carpenter, built all 29 new oak doors for our kitchen at $11 a piece. But if we had bought them from someone else, they would have been around $100 a piece or more. Makes a huge difference to do something yourself.

I don’t usually like the really tiny homes of 100 sq ft or less, but I could live in this one if I was alone. Great job!

I am amazed that the 2×4 flys for the roof haven’t warped and twisted already. That’s a terrible design cue. Even if it’s a stable, weather resistant species it will deform over time without support.

That aside it’s nice looking and unique. If it were new and not a used hotel room I could justify the price in my head as long as the quality of the utilities mirrors the finish schedule.

I have the shell done. It has only cost me about 1200. 00 . I have found most of my stuff for my TH. It is a single axle that is rated for 6 k weight. It more than enough for what I have. But here is the rub, I built 3 more of sizes. I have trucks to pull them. I am a Jack of all trades, Master of none. It took a while due to weather to build them.

The roof construction confuses me. In the inside photos the 2x4s look like they are on edge. In the outside photo they look laid down and follow the roof contour. Are there two sets of 2x4s that are fastened like a T to each other? That would be stronger. Is there insulation between the metal roof and the wood roofing pieces shown in the inside photos?

I like so little about most of these. Not because the work is not well done, the woodwork is usually quite appealing. No, it is because so very few have much that appeals to me. One may have something that does, another may have something else, but never all in one package. That and the prices, are why I will design my own. No, I have not started designing yet, because I will be using a van or similar for my base, and I have not yet found one I wanted at a price that is not 3 times, or more, the bluebook value, and a LOT of those require major work on top of that. And yes, I am qualified to design it, and build it. So, in the wait time, I am doing a load of research, on solar, wind, heat, cooling, cooking, keeping food cold, you name it, I’ve got links on it. Just now I am just saving links, once I get my vehicle, I will go back and study the links to find out just what will work for me, and what not. Composting toilet too, might make one, but seeing as how I bought my present one for about $14, probably won’t. Still debating over solid, liquid, gas, fuel for heat too, along with what do I want for cooking. I intend to start with the toilet first, probably toss in a cot for sleeping, some folding TV tables, and folding chairs, maybe a zero gravity folding chair for comfort,888 then add things one at a time, rather than all at once. That way I can pretty much start using it from day one. I’ve got tons of ideas, but nothing is cast in concrete until I have a vehicle and can measure for what I want. If it does not have a raised roof, it is not a major biggie to make one from scratch, which will likely occur at a later date. It will be able to exist 100% off grid, if I want to, and it will even be pretty stealthy too – won’t tell you what I have planned for that.

I love it! It’s so cute! price is kinda high considering how much wear n tare it’s been through. It’s or like it was just one person living in it.
