750 Sq. Ft. Cabin Cottage in Berkeley, CA

What once was a one-car garage, converted and expanded, is now this 750 sq. ft. cabin cottage.

In the photos below you can see how the owner added an addition to the garage on the hillside. Inside the cottage a stairway was built to connect the spaces together.

The downstairs is the old converted garage, which is where the living area, kitchen and half-bathroom are located.

Up the stairs to the newer addition of the cottage is a bedroom and full bathroom. The bedroom has a beautiful little outdoor patio to enjoy the view.

I think you’ll love the exposed wooden beams throughout the cabin. Please enjoy and share below.

This is absolutely gorgeous! I love the ‘great room’ (which actually is GREAT) and the spacious bedroom and bath are wonderful. The size is right up my alley, too. Very nice!

“Ditto” to everything that Holly wrote! 😀 Stunning renovation; EXACTLY the amount of ‘breathing room’ that my husband and I need so we’re not knocking into each other and the furniture as we would in a tiny-tiny house. Love all the high-end appliances and the *BOLD* use of colour.

Thank you, Alex, for continuing to expand the universe of small home living! 😀

ahhh… peaceful. sometimes i can look at a place in photos and feel like i’m physically walking through it. this place brings a cozy joy to me, i want to have a cup of coffee, and a book, spend 2 days just moving from room to room reading. fix a meal in the evening, and watch the sun move out of the way, eat dinner on the porch. i’m thinking linguine topped with alfredo sauce with fresh scallops sauteed in coconut oil, a little nutmeg in the alfredo to enhance the natural sweetness of the scallops. a spring greens salad with a light lime based dressing, and fresh baked sourdough with an herbed sweetbutter, ah, no skip the butter, olive oil and balsamic vinegar with ground herbs. the folks who built this place must have enjoyed the journey, feels special. thanks for the peek.

Steve. The food description is torture. You at least need to provide a link to the recipes…I’m now starving–and I just ate! Torture, pure torture. rofl

And no mention that this was designed and built by Bernard Maybeck, the only remaining structure on his original property?? This ain’t just any tiny house. This is a historical landmark.

Warm and inviting — treehouse- like almost. Love all the wood
and basically, the whole house!! The outdoor deck space is wonderful. I could live without the over-cluttered shelving in the kitchen, but HEY!
I’m just quibbling. I wonder, tho, — looks like there is a washing machine at the end in the kitchen, but is there a dryer?? I may have
    missed something I’m sure.

I’m pretty sure it’s one of those washer/dryer combos. They say it doesn’t dry the greatest (it takes much longer), but when you are short on space they are great!

If there are any specific design elements that the tiny house movement has popularized, one of them has to be that semi-enclosed front porch that always gives the appearance that the house is literally “hugging” the front porch.
The 3rd picture from the top, in this series, demonstrates that very element.
    Very nice and very inviting.
I love that “inline” kitchen / laundry, too. GREAT use of space.
I’m not a big fan of shower curtains and tubs, but otherwise, the bathroom is an especially nice touch, as is the patio access from the bedroom.
…and this is a vacation home?! I may have to take a trip….

I did not mean to report the comment from Dean. I wanted to say –This is the best little home and wish I could build one! I just hit the wrong button. Sorry Dean.

I LOVE this home! However, I don’t really consider it tiny. I have a friend who lives in a whole neighborhood of 600 – 750 sq. ft. homes. Small – yes, but to standard to be tiny. I think of tiny as about 500 sq ft or less. But I sure would love to live there!!!!!

I love, love, love the cottage-y feel of this small space! But, can someone help me out, a little? In the main room I see the stair rail leading upstairs, but in the pics of the bedroom, the stairs are in the center of the wall and they, too, are going up…I’m easily confused, evidently…am I in an MC Escher house and no matter what will be doomed to always walk upstairs (both ways?)? 🙂

Laurentia – Don’t fret. The house built on a hillside. The bedroom is obviously sunken down a little from rest of the house, thus the steps.
Outside, there appears to be a patio that is level with the top of the hillside. The stairs in the living room seem to lead up to that patio (check the 3rd pic down from the top. You can see the railing through the open door. It points right up to the railing that denotes there’s a patio up there).

Nice to see a real vacation HOME! A place where a family could stay and, if it rains, there’s no necessity to go out for dinner—plenty of room in the kitchen for preparing and enjoying a meal together. Also, having spent time RV camping with my family growing up, I remember it being much less expensive to cook our own food in the rig on the stove than eating out in restaurants. Healthier, too. I only see one bed—wondering if any of the couches folds out into a sleeper. Also where the refrigerator is. I agree with one of the posters about the tub-shower curtain arrangement in the bathroom, but remembering the intended purpose of the house is not to purchase for full-time living, but a rental when wanting to get away from the rat race of city life and spend time communing with nature.

I am interested in building a tiny home in Florida on the gulf side. Are there any tiny home neighborhoods or areas that are being developed in the mid area of the coast between okaloosa to up past Panama city that any one is aware of?

Do you know where I can get the blueprints for this house? I want to build one like it in Oklahoma. While I can find pictures I can’t find the blueprints. Thank you Vickey
