65-Year-Old Woman Builds her own DIY Tiny Home

This post contains affiliate links.

This is the story of how a 65-year-old woman decided to build her own DIY tiny home on wheels using reclaimed materials.

It took her two years to build it herself almost all by herself. That’s pretty awesome, isn’t it? She also raised the money to do it herself.

Vera Struck built her tiny home on an 18′ trailer. When you go inside, you’ll find a sleeping loft, living area, bathroom, kitchen, closet, and more. Please enjoy, learn more, and re-share below. Thank you!

Thank you so much for sharing this Alex. Vera is a lovely woman and she did a beautiful job on her home. Hope she comes to Orlando someday.

Vera did a good job with very little. I am amused and annoyed with the interviewer who thinks that doing this is remarkable because of her age…. That somehow at 65 she is too weak or too dumb to build a house for herself. I do not find her age noteworthy. She is an adult.

Yeah, it kind of struck me that way, too. Vera is a vibrant, intelligent and capable woman. Her age seems more of a sidebar than a headline.

This is really awesome. I am so excited to see someone our age being able to do something by themselves, or with a little help, :). I am also going to build a tiny house on wheels for me and my cat. I love your windows in your loft, and something like that would be perfect for my cat to look out of. My trailer is 8 x 24 and I want to have about a 2′ deck on the back, and I think it will be perfect. I can hardly wait to get started now, you have inspired me.
Thank you, and you did a wonderful job.

Same here! Vera is my inspiration as well! This morning I went ahead and bought the trailer I’ve had my eye on… an 8×20′. Now my project begins, at age 62, I just hope it is done by the time I turn 65! Thank you Vera, kudos to you!

Lovely creation, lovely woman. The interviewer was so awful I turned it off. Obnoxious.

Vera, you are an amazing spirit. I wished that you had been given more time to finish your thoughts on what you were being asked and not have to gracefully side-step the interruptions. Many blessings to you and keep inspiring as you go.

This 65 yr old woman is smarter and more agile than this 45 yr old man. Great life, thanks for sharing!

What an amazing woman! She did a beautiful and well-though-out job of building her tiny home. I have to chuckle when I think that she is probably about 9 yrs younger than I am, and while looking at the steps up to her bed, I began to wonder at what age I began to get up about every 2 hrs during the night to go to the bathroom!

“well-thought-out”. I didn’t do a good job of proofreading my comment.

She is definitely an inspiration. She is more patient than I would be with Deek’s constant interruptions and domination of the conversation. A good interviewer should be practically invisible.

This is also one of the most attractive exteriors I have seen in a long time. Definitely not a recycled look…just beautiful.

Oh to be among this incredible woman’s friends! She made my day. Living her life with such verve, imagination, appreciation and beauty. Her intelligence and love of life are radiant. May she live another 65 years! She’s my latest hero.

A nice little home and kudos to her for following her dreams. I would not, however, show anyone the inside of my compost toilet. Ewww.

Smack hand for the stupid arrogant interviewer.
I would have loved to hear more about the blue box.

I hope I look that good when I am 65. That bi-fold front door is so cool but hard to close from the outside?

I LOVE HER! I’ve seen this one before, however I found her just cute bubbly and inspiring, so watching again was fun. Great job Vera!! Her place is also interesting and so very well done. We could all learn from her. Thank you for sharing with us Vera and Alex.

Wow! Wonderful job, well thought-out mechanical systems and beautiful. As anyone can see age or lack of building experience makes no difference. YOU GO GIRL!
