Where is the cabin located? Information will help understand what the costs of transporting might be outside of 100 miles.

paying $231.00 per square foot cost is insane. and you still don’t own the land.

Something to understand is cost per sq ft doesn’t scale linearly and isn’t a real indicator of value or how much is actually being paid for the total costs. So it’s very misleading as you can have a higher cost per sq ft even when the total costs are much lower.

While also not all homes cost the same because they’re not all built the same. So it’s automatically misleading when you compare different structures by just their cost per sq ft as that won’t factor anything relevant like how well built the home is, whether it’s better designed or not, how well it performs, how long it will last, how healthy or unhealthy it will be to live in, etc.

Timber framed, log cabins, etc. will also generally cost more than stick framed. Especially, as they tend to use more materials, have more elaborate construction details, and tend to move in the direction of adding levels of craftsmanship and not just simply assembling a structure. But that also means there’s a difference in how it will be like to live in it and what you can potentially get out of it.

While anything custom built normally starts about 50% more in costs and can easily go multiple times higher, for how different the cost of any structure can be depending on how it’s done.

Mind, you actually do get something different out of it depending on those details. A better built home will tend to last longer, need less maintenance, cost less to heat and cool, it can be better made to be healthy to live in, and impart other benefits you otherwise may not get. While a custom home means it can be tailored to your needs and preferences and go beyond the basics of a home.

So there’s more to it than simply looking at them as shelter and whether or not it includes land. For those who want a specific type of home, the price can just be different depending on what exactly the want to get and how it gets done. While the costs can be relative and should be considered in context for how they actually compare because everything is not all equivalent and details can matter a great deal to what you actually will be getting…

don’t understand why they’re selling it furnished – free standing cupboards are cute but give me a closet for real storage any day – use pocket doors people, the bedroom and bathroom could use that extra swing space for storage of some sort and there is literally no counter space except the stacking table area behind the couch and so few cupboards! Cute but not practical from my point of view. I would also point out that those open beams are going to be hard to clean. I would rather have the porch half its width, with the other half enclosed to make an entry for coats, boots and other storage instead. Just personal preferences I guess, and – is the refrigerator on the far side of the hallway away from the kitchen area? window boxes are cute but I can’t help but think that $ could have been better spent elsewhere on what I consider necessities.

“don’t understand why they’re selling it furnished”

Probably just because that’s easier than selling the furniture separately and helps sell it… They probably had this built for themselves but now have to sell it and so everything goes that they don’t need to keep.

“is the refrigerator on the far side of the hallway away from the kitchen area?”

Yes, you can also see it in the floor plan as well…

Moving the bathroom door to the hallway would solve this, allow for a L-shaped kitchen, put the fridge in the kitchen, and still provide more counter top space.

They didn’t build the shell, so, if that included some interior walls, perhaps they just adapted to the existing layout but they could have changed that detail easily enough if they were hiring contractors, etc. and seems to be an oversight or perhaps if this was originally for themselves they just didn’t mind at the time vs the cost of making the change…

I like your idea of moving the bathroom door and refrigerator. It makes more sense and allows more bathroom privacy. Otherwise, well thought out. I always look for washer/dryer in these, as they are putting more w/d in the tiny houses. Nice place. Thanks for your comments.

Do you make them wheelchair accessible?

There’s no mention of option for making modifications. Listing is for a one time sale from the present owners, who bought the shell and hired out professionals to built it out for them. So would be as is, and any modifications would be up to the next owner.

I’m in San Fernando, California, is there anyway I can purchase something similar to this cabin near my location?
I have just enough to out right purchase this, you say, you only deliver within 100 miles, how does this help me?
    Thank you

No, they said cost includes delivery within 100 miles… Further will just cost more but otherwise, yes, look for something local.

You may not have Amish builders near you but there should certainly be cabin builders who can sell you a shell you can then build out or you can have it all commissioned locally. Depending on your specific municipality, it just may have to be an ADU…

You can also look into Park Model RV’s, if you don’t mind placing one at a RV park, etc. but they have units designed to look like cabins. Along with actual tiny house builders who could just build you something like this and there’s also pre-Fabs that offer cabin style units… and there’s always the option to just build a cabin or cottage…
