Not all the photos have shown up, internet outage problems, but if I had the money and they would deliver out of Southland to the BoP I would buy. Given that costs in NZ are much higher than elsewhere due to transport and distance from suppliers this is very reasonable indeed. Nice layout, I personally would lose the fridge and washing machine for a smaller under counter fridge with icebox and a small washer/spinner combo from China but that is personal preference. The living area is good and actually has space for a table and chairs, essential if entertaining or just having friends around foir coffee/tea. Not everyone wants to eat and drink sitting on a sofa, many prefer chair and table. Also better for working from home. Add in a sleeping loft you can stand in, something sadly lacking in nearly 100% of THoWs and I for one am sold. Will be checking to see if they can do onbe cheaper for delivery to BoP where dad lives on several acres.

Actually Karen that is NOT reasonable indeed. It is typical of businesses in NZ to spout the mantra of it costs so much more because of distance yadda yadda, yadda.

If so, then answer why is it soooo much cheaper to buy exactly the same products in Australia when the difference in distance from source is for all intents and purposes negligible. And how is our sheep meat which is exported to the UK sooooo much cheaper than what we pay here at home? Forget about supermarket chains with their loss leaders… how can the corner butchery shop sell it for less than what we pay here in “good ol’ Godzone?”

Like I said… we get ripped off… left, right and centre. Even tourists who come here complain about it. Especially the cost of food.

It’s because of factors like New Zealand is a small (population-wise) and isolated country. So it means that imports are going to be more expensive and there’s a lack of competition in many sectors that prevent more competitive pricing.

NZ has a much higher GST (VAT) compared to Australia… Add influence of countries like China on the NZ markets, especially the housing market, policies like not exploring oil reserve that means everything has to run on the high cost imported oil that makes everything from production to transportation more expensive…

NZ pay almost twice as much in tax on petrol compared to Australia…

Add lack of development in the tech sector to improve efficiency and production capacities and there’s little wonder about the pricing…

While exports to the UK are lower because that’s a bigger market and they’re both selling in bulk and competing with other countries that sell similar goods…

        So you’re both right…

At $108K U.S. for the space and design I don’t find this expensive at all. Its certainly less expensive than a 400 sq. ft. studio for $600K in some places in the U.S.A. and west coast Canada. That whole thing works for me. In Greater Vancouver, B.C. one can expect to pay up to $45K just for the parking space to go with your condo. I like the wood. Have seen furniture and homes built out of the plywood. Its more environmental, can be painted any colour you want and won’t disentgrate like some wall boards or sheet rock does.
This is just a great house and the trailer is cool.
