Always dreamed of living in a tree house, like the one in the Disney movie Swiss Family Robinson. However, with the cost of this one, plus another$100,000 to fix it up, you could buy a real nice home in the country, on the ground. This is not what dreams are made of.

I’ve always dreamed of a Swiss Family Robinson house too!

I agree. You would need to gut this one. It would be cool, tho.

A fantasy home but only after pouring a ton of money into it. Lots of upgrades and repairs needed but if you have the budget and determination, the end result could be a dream home! The house provides the basis for your imagination to sour!

Yes absolutely! It has tons of potential.

I saw a toilet! No outhouse…. yay! Idaho to cold for this one. I love it. Wonder if it is drafty? Probably would wear socks out like crazy. Course I do steal my hubby’s socks. 😉

This was someone else’s dream. Looks like a money pit. Honestly, I don’t think it’s worth half the price. If there was true craftsmanship that would be a different story. All of that untreated wood will not survive in that environment.

It’s survived for 21 years soooooo

There are some beautiful parts to this house. I understand what the builder had in mind and it was pretty natural when he designs and build it. However a lot of this house are not worth saving, I suspect the heat is not good either. The price is too much. maybe some of the house can be saved for a future house. I wish I could have seen this when he build it.

Gotta agree with the others here. This is a delightful building, and I frankly itch to get in there and start refurbishing and rebuilding…but for that price I could hire some professionals to build me an exact replica in perfect working order, all mod cons.

Really nice to see it here, as it’s charming! But almost $300k is just outrageous for something in need of so much work (and we don’t even know how structurally sound it is to begin with). I imagine the price is at least to some large degree due to the acreage?

    Thanks for sharing it!

Yes I definitely think the price is for the land.

I looked at this house maybe 10? years ago.
It is a really cool house, an artist’s house, but sadly it seems to be in disepair.
I was charmed by it then, but an unwilling partner made it infeasible.
I was struck by the beauty of the house and property.

The house’s price has been dropped significantly (it’s ours. was a project when bought, then life happened and we moved to FL) The land is where the $ is in that market but I wish someone would come put some love into this thing…

Hi Shay, is the house still for sale? I tried phoning the number on the listing but I haven’t heard back yet. I’d love to talk to you!

I love it😍! If I had the money I would snatch it up in a second. Yes it needs some work. But if it’s liveable just take your time and build it into your dream tree house.

Amazing vision and potential. The ten acres alone seem like a bargain.Someone handy in the trades could finish this castle.Very cool place.

If I were younger and a handiwoman, and had the money I’d probably like to work on it. Love tree houses, but alas, this 64 yr old gramma couldn’t take the cold winters.

I hate to be the litigious one,
or even think like a grown up.
    It’s not going to appraise.
    It has no permits.
    It’s not to code.
You can never get a loan.
    You can never insure it.
    Plus the all aforementioned. 🤣
No offense to the owner, but
I agree the value must be only in the land.
But I still think it’s super fun.

Actually, depends on local municipality… Tree houses can require permits to build, especially, if it’s done by a commercial builder. While an engineer can sign off on anything you may build to indicate it was built correctly. Municipality only really worries about liability, but an engineer’s stamp of approval takes care of that…

Insurance providers like Allstate also do cover tree houses…

I helped build a multilevel tree house when I was a teenager. They are so much fun, but there’s a lot to consider about this one that would take the fun out of it. I’d look into the climate and exactly how far from civilization it is (Home Depot, supermarket, law enforcement, hospital, pharmacy, mailbox, internet) – all the little necessary conveniences that are suddenly inconvenient. Will my cats get lost and eaten by wolves? Will I? I’m all for adventure but I dunno. That is a lot of land though, and I am tired of my neighbors.

I have been looking at this home so long… my heart sinks whenever it is removed from sale. It is a dream house, on dream property, in my dream area and totally out of reach for my husband and I- as is Idaho as a whole it seems. We have planned for years to leave Southern CA for something like that home, but since we barely make it here, I don’t think we will there. I so wish we could raise our two young children there. I literally dreamed about this place last night (we were building a wooden onion dome on it- haha!). Very cool and the work isn’t that scary after the trailers we have bought to live in…

I am absolutely obsessed with this house. I hope I can get this tree Castle one day. I would put a telescope on the top level and a glass roof of sorts. Observe the stars all night. I love everything about this and I hope if someone else does get it that they appreciate the house and don’t just get it for the land. This place is magical and unique.
