what is that “haven” thing? and why is it so special being photographed?

It’s a fire suppressant system… The next photo shows it already installed, looks like a smoke detector, on the underside of the loft, it’s just above the the kitchen counter top and just a little past this is where the Kimberly Wood Stove is located and in the other direction is the two burner stove…

So it shows they thought of fire safety… Many builders are starting to install sprinklers and other fire safety features.

Thank you, now that you say it it’s obvious, yeah. In white wouldn’t get a permission here. Fire extinguishers signal fire, thus have to be in red for easy recognition. How true now, lol.
This house has gas AND wood burner, so they need a lot of fire extinguishers! We have neither, so we need only one.

Automated fire suppressant systems don’t require recognition or even to be openly visible, just proximity to the likely space that is in risk of fire, just like fire sprinklers, etc.

The system will activate on its own when a fire is detected. So you’re not required to do anything except perhaps evacuate in case the fire suppressant isn’t sufficient to stop the fire, but it will buy you more time…

The “haven” thing is a fire suppression safety devise. I think it may be ceiling mounted in the next picture down from it.

Beautiful home but… I am puzzled by the heating options. There appears to be 2 Envi wall heat panels, a mini split system and the wood or gas stove. Why would they all be needed?

Mint Tiny Homes is a Canadian company…

Hi Jennie, this is my home. I went with the 3 heating options due to the weather here in Canada. The woodstove is my main source of heat when I am home. There are actually 3 envi heaters (one in the back room also) which are on t-stats and set to keep it comfortable. I don’t use the mini split for heating just a/c and humidity control in the summer.

Hi Tina, I am currently having Mint build me a tiny home and was hoping you might be able to share the measurements of your loft staircase? Mint is no longer doing fully custom homes, so I am trying to figure out how to make a second staircase work in my 41′ Canada goose model.

If you could provide me with the rise/run and the width/height of your staircase, I would be eternally grateful!!

Love the side stair configuration and it appears as if the top step is closer to the loft so that you are not stepping up basically the equivalent of 2 normal steps ( as in the normal stairs against the wall all the way up style) .

Look carefully at the tread and riser ratios…

I continually love the fresh ideas that come out with each new THIW build. This one seems to be huge (length) and I wonder why, since the stairs at the one end are so compact with usable space under open to the side, why not put another staircase to the other loft leaving the storage shelves Poen to the front for pantry storage. The stove would need to shift to accommodate but this would give each loft stairs and no need for a ladder.

Just a thought. Don’t get me wrong. I love this, just haven’t seen the stairs done so compactly and know it could revolutionize lofts without wasting so much footage. After all, THOWs are not about the square footage, it all about the cubic inches!

This is my home….only one set of stairs due to cost restraints and overall design – I wanted the kitchen and living area to be open – did not need anymore storage space in the kitchen – believe it or not. Those Ikea cabinets are amazing lol….also as in custom homes the second loft is only for storage right now. I have only accessed it once since June. Eventually as my granddaughter gets older this will be her space when she comes for sleep overs – or maybe not…time will tell. 🙂

This is the basic dream for me…a few tweaks and I am moving in ; )
I just want to say that everyone over 70 does not hate lofts…I am in that age group, and work a full time and part time job, have 2 wolf dogs and live at 9300 feet so I drive 2 – 4 hours a day in the Colorado mountains…there are lots of different lifestyles and needs that are not age specific. I would use all those heat sources for sure…and an oven. But I can see myself in that tub for hours looking out at the moose ; ). Number 1 on my list. I adore the interior.
