With endless design options, these Styrodome tiny dome homes, can be built for around $65 – $75 per square feet (depending on your location).

Each 314 sq. ft. kit includes 8 sections that are made from 4 ½ inches thick EPS (expanded poly styrene) material, along with standard window openings, a door opening, and 160 liner ft of rebar.

Each section comes pre-fabricated with the wire mesh installed and ready for plaster. Electric and plumbing are installed like most conventional structures, while mini split A/C units are recommended for heating and cooling. Isn’t Styrofoam terrible for the environment? Are these perhaps made from recycled styrofoam cups or something?

Built a large dome home 30 years ago in Kansas City, Missouri. These are great! (Ours was destroyed by a direct hit from a bad tornado, years after we moved, but these are very sturdy.)

What a cost effective way to build! Such a building would do well in Montana with such thick, insulating walls. In my mind, where a yurt wouldn’t do well with the kind of wildlife we have in the western part of the state, this structure would, the biggest problem being bears.

I love these domes especially for hurricane areas. A round shape reduce the forces of wind when blowing against a wall.
When you combine two 20′ domes with a vardo type living area in between you can add some roof overhang on both ends to get the shade you would like to have in a tropical climate.
It would be interesting to learn if they fit into a container.

From what I remember they’re a company that is based out of Japan. I remember seeing these houses, and these exact photos, on the Japanese home webpage. Just google Japanese Foam Houses. http://www.i-domehouse.com

Where is that little community of domes In the photos?
If you don’t want it to be mobile, perfect! I am sold! On website the cost adds up to right under $15,000, which includes labor and plumbing, electric. Site stated fire does not spread. So much affordable than typical Tiny Houses..hope that does not change! Anyone could pay that off quickly. Plus building time-with foundation 7 days, without, less than that!
    R-factor is right under 20…..

This dome community is in Japan and is used to illustrate what can be done with our system

Very disappointing … did the company go out of business?

Apparently the company is no longer in business. Too bad, looks like it would have been an affordable option not only for full time living but for creating some rental spaces for added income.

Hi, I am interested in have some dome builders help me build a EPS dome home. I tried to contact “http://www.usadomes.com” twice, there wasn’t any response. Do you know if this site and this company is active in USA? I live in Southern California, and would appreciate very much if you can recommend some EPS builders in this area.

No, all websites I could find associated with this product are defunct. If you want a real, good dome house go to http://www.monolithic.org

None of the links listed above to actually purchase a dome home kit work, except for monolithic.org, which is a contractor, and doesn’t actually sell kits, and the other website, i-dome house, which is a manufacturer in the far east, and who doesn’t sell less than 300 domes to any one company.

I am an individual. I am looking for a low cost dome kit made of EPS foam panels, that assembles quickly and inexpensively. Is there any such vendor in the USA?
