  Someone please reply with the answer to this question. Why do homes have an unreasonably large tv that is only 5′ from where they sit? Why such a large tv when the size of the home dictates a smaller tv? I just don’t get it.

    I guess it’s the same reason that some people like to sit in the front row in a movie theater, and others prefer to be much farther back. Some people find it to be a more immersive experience; with a huge screen one is less aware of one’s surroundings. (I think there’s a nice balance of big-but-not-huge, but everyone’s different.) Anyone else have a theory?

      @Alison, you got the gist of it. It’s primarily preference but also usage as people can also use their screen as a monitor for their PC, split screen usage, etc, which is more practical now with 4k and even 8k screens. So they can make more use of the screen in closer proximity than they previous could with lower resolution screens.

      Wall mounted also typically means it can be pulled out and turned to be viewed from another part of the home that would be further away.

      Though, some people mistakenly get too big a TV and don’t realize it until they use it in the tiny home but until they get a new one they’re stuck with it… Sometimes this is because they just kept the one they were using from their previous larger home. So it’s not always what works for someone but people do generally prefer larger screens these days or go the opposite route and sans the TV altogether in favor of tablets, etc.

        And here was me thinking it was just an American thing… bigger is better and biggerer is betterer and so on.

        Heck, I’ve got a standard 3 bedroom home and I think a 32 inch is adequate. But my missus went and bought a 47 inch and then like 6 months later a 55 inch monster. And a monster “smart” TV it was and she can’t even use the stoopid thing. /smh

      @Eric – American? No, it’s a worldwide trend with actually Asia ahead for the largest average. While the largest TV in the world is actually in England at 370 inch and worth just over $1.6 million… In most countries the average has been growing over the years and is now roughly reaching or is around 50 inches, give or take a few inches depending on the specific country…
