  Ok so the elephant in the room…$275K USD, for a van! I get it that statement may be considered self limiting but while the entire unit may be worth that to someone, IMHO someone will buy it but Id personally spend that on land well of any mule trail, build out of my small (not tiny), home that is entirely off grid (full solar, water, solar heating, wind generator, internet, etc.) and yes while not mobile, with the world the way it looks to be situating itself, I am not at the mercy of governments to control what and where I do what I do.
  Otherwise, it’s a nice over-lander van.

  Wait! What???? $275,000??? Definitely for the person who has more money than they know what to do with…and are willing to pay whatever price some trickster quotes! If this was posted for shock value, it worked! 😉

    No trickster, just caters to very specialized needs that a regular build out couldn’t provide. For an analogy, it’s like saying there’s no reason to get a 1 ton truck over a sub compact smart car when they’re built to handle very different usages.

    The 1 ton truck is going to be much less comfortable to ride in but it can do things you couldn’t even dream of doing with the smart car… Similarly, this is built for very specific high end functionality that allows people to do things they otherwise couldn’t, like use it as a expedition vehicle to go places regular vehicles couldn’t…

    Just the reality that some people want to do things that it can cost quite a bit to enable them to do it and it can go a lot higher in price than this for many of them… Larger expedition motor homes can run upwards into the millions, for example…

    While custom built high quality Class B’s are usually around this price. For example, Advance RV, who specialize in high end custom built Class B’s will typically charge around $300K for most of their builds… Another example is custom built high end Class A’s typically start at $500K, for a better idea what’s actually normal for the high end custom range in the RV/Motor Home market… There’s a big difference between the cost range of custom built from the general production line of more mass produced products.

    Mass produced products are going to be a lot cheaper than custom, just always trade offs and mass produced products are going to be more generic, won’t cater to specialized needs, and have more limited options and features that will often be built to more minimum requirements to help keep the cost low or to target range… While custom gives more control, can be built to much higher standards, and can be extremely specialized…

    It’s not the cabinetry they were paying for… These are extremely high end custom builds, specifically targeting being able to go places and do things you couldn’t otherwise do with a normal vehicle.

    They make it more durable, they give it greater range, they make it able to function in more extreme conditions and be able to go places other vehicles may just get stuck or break down before reaching, they make it so the owners can bring their gear and outdoor exploration equipment with them, they make it so they can remain out in the wild for as long as possible without needing to make pit stops back towards civilization…

    You’re basically paying for the experience it can provide you… Like if your passion was for skydiving, buying a plane could be something you’d consider, for example because it is uniquely capable of allowing you that experience. Similarly, there are other things people may want to do that would require a very specialized vehicle with specific modifications and upgrades made to it to allow for that use… Each one is specialty built for a specific client and what they specifically want to do with it… It’s not your normal camper van…

    Builders who cater to this range of products can do welding specialty fabrication, engine modifications, create custom materials and composites, adjust weight and structural strength, get and setup very specialized equipment, etc…
