This is an adorable home. Someone is going to buy it and love it!

This is one of the smartest THOW designs I have seen to date. Well laid out, having the kitchen on both sides and bathroom at back opens it up compared to kitchen on one side, bathroom on the other – too claustrophobic for us. Sofa at back with foldout is smart. Extra headroom above bed is great! Nicely done. Had I the bucks… 🙂

Nice house! I think they’re making a mistake to sell everything with it. After all, everyone has their own belongings. Perhaps, if they said the furnishings were negotiable, pick and choose . . .

Adorable and lovely home; I hope the owners close on their sale soon!

But, this listing just adds more confirmation to what many people have mentioned: truly tiny/micro homes are outgrown waaaay too fast and are on the market within a year or two of completion…if they even get completed. Life = Change and something this small or smaller allows for very little expansion or change in a life involving more than one person.

Such a pity; they poured their love into this home. Good luck with your next one!

I thought I was the only one disappointed to see these homes up for sale so quickly. I always enjoy watching the process, the emotion and dreams invested, and I’m happy for the owners when it all comes together.
I couldn’t help getting invested in the custom steam-punk home for a military mom and son, where the builders and craftsmen went out of their way to personalize it, and was stunned to see it up for sale shortly thereafter. The craftsmen went to a great deal of trouble to accommodate the mother’s personalization, and the child had to give up some treasured possessions for the downsizing. I would almost like to see a follow-up show, “What Went Wrong?”
Poor planning? Life changes? I got attached to the charming little boy who wasn’t afraid to be himself, doll house and all.

Hi, Sally! Nice to read your comments, as usual. I always enjoy reading what you have to say. 😀

Glad to read we’re on the same page regarding the increasingly ephemeral nature of the residents of tiny/micro homes. I realize that “Everyone’s got a story,” and that in each case, the owner’s needing to sell feel that their story is unique, but come on…unless there’s a sudden death in the family…could they not figure out that their Dream Home wasn’t going to make it past 2 years?

It leaves a strange taste in my virtual mouth that more planning went into the CREATION of these homes vs. planning to LIVE in these homes.

I’ll continue to support and applaud all the tiny home owners that end up thriving in their homes, but it seems, increasingly, that quite a bit of tiny home owners do this on a whim. Oh well, not my time nor money wasted….

        Cahow & Sally

I could not agree with you more. I think people just do not realize that living this small — Especially a THOW — with such extremely limited space, virtually no privacy if you live with another, and the fact that you have to be willing to divest yourself of alot, both possessions, and manner of living conventionally (also need to hone your communication and tolerance skills), that actual living in one becomes overwhelming to them and until you actually live this way so difficult to imagine. People that are seriously considering this lifestyle should rent themselves a small/medium sized RV for a month or two and live in it for that time — would give them a better perspective of what is in store for them — it is not like camping for a weekend — it is more like camping everyday.

There are tax reasons that make it absolutely perfect tax wise (one of the few “loopholes” that are actually available to people working in any of the construction trades) where you can live and build a home from scratch, or remodel, and sell it at the end of two years, and any profit is tax free. You can do this legally every two years. Usually PARTS and LABOR are 50/50 on construction projects, so judge for yourself whether it is Parts Intensive or Labor Intensive and you have a very good reason to do something like this frequently.

Imagine a crew of four, especially two unmarried couples could be building four houses at a time and selling them in two years…rinse and repeat. It is an honest way of earning a living.

Good tax info, Mary. With the TH market, tho, I would have to question if there is enough demand for the homes others build at a price that allow profit. Most people on here raise H– about prices shown, especially when it boils down to many $$$ over standard sq. ft. prices. In my mind, it would hard to make a profit when the general public thinks price should be based on size instead of custom woodwork, specialty kitchen and bath fixtures, and working within a tiny footprint.
And, the customized home I referred to was probably very expensive, and is SO personalized with steampunk style that it wouldn’t have a wide market outside Mad Max fans.
It would be great if couples could start producing THs for fast turn-over, but not sure about profit margins, or quality. The professionals with nice work seem to be having a hard time getting their price. Even with guy in Texas with the awesome salvage homes catches guff for his prices. I guess its the Wal-Mart mentality, USA.

I’d be worried about towing this. The axles are rated just under 10K lbs, which includes the weight of the trailer. Looking at this house, I would bet it is over that weight easily… snapping axles as you are towing your new home is not a pleasant thought.

They mention above that the trailer is rated to 14Kllbs so I think it can handle the move! Buy it!

OMG! This is absolutely fantastic! Too bad I’m not quite ready to downsize to a tiny house just yet, otherwise, I’d be all over this one. Good luck with finding a buyer. From the looks of things, I don’t think that you’ll have a problem selling it.

I could SO live in this. If I had a place to put it, I’d buy it. They might find themselves in a bidding situation on this one. It’s lovely and decorated to my taste, complete with the James Taylor verse!

This is outstanding. Guests in the loft is ladders won’t work for you or storage. Lots of room to tweak if you need to. Really impressed with this one.

This is beautifully done and thoughtfully laid out. I wish all tiny houses featured in this blog would show us a blueprint. It makes it so much easier to picture the layout.

I really like this THOW. I like that there is actually a designated living room area, but it can also be made into a bed for guests. I could see myself living in this one.

  • June 30, 2015, 4:46 pm

This one is beautiful. It’s as if they built it, to decorate it, to sell. It all looks brand new. I can see why all the furnishings are included if this is the case. I think $65k is pretty high. I DO love this layout though. I’d use a murphy bed instead of the fold-out sofa (the kind that folds down over the sofa). I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the drawers beside the sofa. They appear to be like file cabinet drawers. If that is the case, NO ONE ever thinks that they will have important papers to store or heaven forbid you have a business and need to keep some files. This seems like such a grown up space. Love it!

Looks very nice! In other areas the price seems high, but in California houses around 1200 sq. ft. regularly go for over 500K, so this seems cheap in comparison.

Sad to learn that the steampunk tiny house is already up for sale. 🙁

I guess the high turnover of tiny homes has two sides: While it’s dismaying in one sense, it does put more tiny houses on the market for those of us who are unable or unwilling to build our own!

This is a pretty good layout. There’s only two things that would give me pause – I’d probably dump food on myself getting it out of that high-up microwave, and there really needs to be some kind of safety railing on the sleeping loft.

It does kind of have the look of a decorator house, though, and not one lived in.

This is beautifully done; my only concern is the lack of railing for the sleeping loft.

Great design inside and out, good storage, and very inviting. It feels like a home and not a tiny house on a trailer.

Is this still available? Just saw it. My son lives in Fullerton and is looking for a place. If it is not, could you give me some insight into where to find a tiny home in California? Thank you.
