Outstanding idea. I wouldn’t be able to do this part by myself but could handle most of the interior work. This would ne helpful to many who are going it alone.

Hi Gale, Thank you so much! this was our goal to offer a package where the hard work was taken care of and you can finish the rest, we do offer turn key tiny houses but our most popular options is the shells, it the perfect combination for the Do It Yourselfer that wants the hard and heavy part done beforehand

Wow, that’s something very good and helps a lot on a limited budget although cost can add up when you are looking on the options. However, for the gooseneck I am looking it seems to me still a good deal.
Unfortunately I couldn’t find nothing about customizing.

Hi Micheal, Most of the shells that we sell are split even between lots of options and very few options, Take for example the Tan shell with the copper roof, the only options it has is 5 extra windows and 2 lofts, that is all. the copper colored roof (or any roof color comes standard) Here is the standard features that comes with the basics shell (same applies for goosenecks) HD Tiny House Trailer, Insulated Subfloor, Full Framing, Finished Standing Seam Metal Roof, Vapor Wrap, T1-11 Siding and Trim, 4 Windows, 36″ Front Door – (detailed specs are available on the price sheets)

For customization, we can do really anything. we can be hands on or let you design it all whichever the customer prefers. the price sheets also outlines a lot of the options which decide how the structure looks.

The process for ordering the shells starts like this:
Decide what length and style of tiny house trailer you want and what features on the trailer you want, then we order the trailer. once the trailer is ordered most our customers like to then design the shell, They can Then decide on roof style, pitch and color, where you want your windows and if you want to add more. Then front door placement and loft sizes if you want lofts. If you have any questions at all feel free to email me at [email protected]

        Thanks Joshua,
That is great. I am going to contact you by email to tell you about my ideas of a steel framed gooseneck. The light weight aluminum siding would be interesting, too because I am doing a lot of travelling.
Can you provide an RV certificate?
        Talk to you later.

Absolutely love this, I have spent a lot of time admiring your work on your site! I do have one question, would you ever consider building the shell on the trailer with a metal frame? I have heard that it really helps to lower the overall weight of the house. Just wondering. 🙂

    • December 14, 2015, 10:59 pm

Thank you so much Dawn, i really appreciate that! Yes we actually can build the frame out of steel, right now its just a quote for each size the customer wants I’m revising the price sheets with new options like skylights, electrical, plumbing etc and will have then new price sheets available soon. My Wife and i will actually planning another tiny house with steel framing and aluminum siding to keep it super light weight for easier travel!

Excellent idea. You have a dry place to work as time and money allow and no worries about getting walls and roof up or protected before weather can make a mess. Unfortunately my build spot is walk in only, no driveway option possible so it’s going to be DIY prefab in small sections.

That much? For just a shell? I don’t care what the rest of you think, it is waaay over what I would pay.

    • December 15, 2015, 6:30 pm

It’s actually not just a shell, it is the tiny house trailer included PLUS a finished Exterior with trim PLUS a finished metal roof PLUS 4 windows PLUS a 36″ wide front Door PLUS insulated subfloor. It is a really great package for a excellent price.

Yep, that’s what a shell house is. A shell.

Hi Josh I am from Michigan and my biggest fear was the shell so this is a great idea. How much to ship to Michigan.

    • December 18, 2015, 1:20 am

Hi Sophie, email me at [email protected] and ill gather some quotes for you, it depends on length of shell and city you live in. but most of our shells go to out of state customers so they get some miles on them for sure!

The shell is a great opportunity for someone like me. I can do small carpenter jobs for interior which do not need to be weather tight. Bravo ! 🙂

Thank you Joshua for providing a product that anyone can do if they have the sprite to try. It was mention already a about a lightweight mental framing but what about something totally “Green” with a Solar Energy System; with a battery bank system constructed under the sub-flooring as slid-out compartment or have in additional a Wind-Generator-tube system, built-into top of the roof-line, hidden as roof dormer on its length, too harvest wind energy during the movement of the home or when the home is stationary position on a windward side and or overcast/rainy weather and last but not lese a roof rain catch system with filter. Just a few I idles in case the Zombie Apocalypse hits and you need a Bug-Out Tiny house with all Bells and Wassails. Hopefully you will forgive my long-winded monologue and you can appreciate my humble try at humor but I am recovering from Coronary Bypass from 2 moths ago. Trying too say always living in this life in the positive, there only one as we all know. Thank you and take care.

I know they’re not finished but I would like to see the inside to see the layout

They have interior photos on their website but there’s typically not much to see as shells start with just the framing and insulation. Aside from the shape of the exterior, and maybe the loft framing, you’re free to do the layout how you wish…

    • May 22, 2023, 2:01 pm

Hi Sherry! We have lots of YouTube videos of our shells and finished builds at http://www.Youtube.com/tinyhousebasics each tiny house we build is custom for each client, we design the full floorplan which each client even though we may not be finishing the interior, we still want to have that in the design take in account of what the interior will look like so windows, doors and lofts are all in the right place when we build. If you have any questions feel free to email me!
