Amazingly Functional 136 Sq. Ft. Molecule Tiny Home on Wheels

This post contains affiliate links.

If you already haven’t seen this 136 sq. ft. Molecule Tiny Home you’re in for a treat. To me, it’s one of the best designed and best built little houses on wheels out there. And it’s their 5th design and build. At 8’x17′ it’s one of their smallest, too.

But they were still able to add a lot of functionality, comfort, and beauty to the home as you’ll see. One of the most notable features is the fold up deck but there’s a lot more that will stand out once you go inside.

I encourage you to enjoy the rest of the tour as this one has lots of unique features you’ll probably like and want to implement in your future design:

..or better yet, you can have Molecule Tiny Homes do it for you. I think you’ll agree that they’re REALLY good at what they do. Personally, I’d absolutely love to buy a home from them and I’d be proud (and happy!) to own it and live in it.

Molecule Tiny Home #5

I think you’ll be surprised as to how many great features they were able to pack into this tiny 8’x17′ structure. So let’s get to it..

136 Square Foot Molecule Tiny Home on Wheels #5

Let me take you inside..

Welcome… Come on in!

136 Square Foot Molecule Tiny Home on Wheels #5

It’s a REAL staircase in a TINY house! Lots of people think this is impossible, but if that’s you.. Think again! And you know that they would never waste any space so you’ve got storage underneath there too.

Video Tour of this Tiny…

Lots of Storage in this Tiny House

136 Square Foot Molecule Tiny Home on Wheels #5

I don’t know who wouldn’t agree that a staircase like this is so much better than those flimsy looking ladders that usually end up getting in your way all the time if you’re living in a tiny space. This way, there’s no ladder to move, store and worry about. And you don’t have to worry about falling over, either. Also, take note of the extra storage space to the right of the staircase which we’ll get to in a moment.

Extra Storage/Sleeping Loft

136 Square Foot Molecule Tiny Home on Wheels #5

Directly above the entrance you’ve got a storage loft to keep all of those goodies that you don’t necessarily use everyday like those seasonal items that you can get out of the way for a few months. So let’s turn back around so I can give you a quick look at the kitchenette.

Door that Leads to Bathroom

136 Square Foot Molecule Tiny Home on Wheels #5

Don’t worry, I’ll take you into the bathroom in a jiffy. First, let me show the closet which is just to the left of that door.

This tiny house has a real closet!

136 Square Foot Molecule Tiny Home on Wheels #5

Lots of times, designer/builders leave out the all too important closet! Not Molecule. Everything they do seems to be very well thought out.

Alright, let me show you the washroom!

Itty Bitty Bathroom in this Molecule Home

136 Square Foot Molecule Tiny Home on Wheels #5

Did you notice the super tiny sink to wash your hands? I think that’s so cool!

And here’s one of my favorite parts..

Extra Door in the Bathroom

136 Square Foot Molecule Tiny Home on Wheels #5

When you live in a tiny space and you go number 2, it can really stink up the joint. So why not create a way to take care of this problem quick and simply?

And it’s not only useful for that, but also after a hot shower so you can quickly and easily get rid of the humidity you just created to keep your home dry inside.

That’s what the extra “door” is for!

Another cool way to use this opening is to take out the compost (from the toilet) because who really wants to walk through their living room with that?

136 Square Foot Molecule Tiny Home on Wheels #5

Okay, back to the kitchen..

136 Square Foot Molecule Tiny Home on Wheels #5

And let me get you up to the sleeping loft/bedroom.

Sleeping Loft in Molecule #5

136 Square Foot Molecule Tiny Home on Wheels #5

One of the many things I love about the guys behind Molecule is their attention to detail. I mean, look at all those windows! It must be so lovely up there. I’m so envious of whoever got to buy this home on wheels. They paid $45,000 for it and I think it was well worth every penny.

136 Square Foot Molecule Tiny Home on Wheels #5

Thought that was it? No. There are even more little details to make you smile everyday.. Yet another bonus window up in the loft on the opposite side in addition to the already awesome skylight. How cool is this?

136 Square Foot Molecule Tiny Home on Wheels #5 136 Square Foot Molecule Tiny Home on Wheels #5

Let’s Head back Downstairs

136 Square Foot Molecule Tiny Home on Wheels #5

And let me show you the rest of the exterior which I’m sure you’ll also be impressed with as much as I am.

136 Square Foot Molecule Tiny Home on Wheels #5

My Thoughts on Pricing

I know some of you are thinking that $45,000 is still too much and for many it is. But just think that whoever bought it didn’t have to do ANY of the design or physical work themselves. Sure if you build it yourself you can do it for way less but personally I’d be really lucky if my first build turned out even 25% as good as this one. Maybe with enough guidance and a good set of plans I could. And the ability to call for help here and there..

Anyway..

If you go a little bigger, does design matter as much?

If you go off wheels and into a normal foundation cabin or cottage you can build for even cheaper and if you’re shooting for 400 square feet or more then design doesn’t matter as much as it does when you’ve only got an 8’x17′ footprint to work with. But anyways let me show the rest of the exterior..

Built-in Storage Shed

136 Square Foot Molecule Tiny Home on Wheels #5

This is where you can squeeze in some of your tools and possibly your batteries for solar, propane tank and your EcoTemp tankless water heater… Just to the right, you can notice where the bathroom bonus door is located.

Every house these folks do is better than their previous one. They’re learning so much about what works and looks good, and they’re putting all that knowledge back into their creations.

How much better would the world be if everyone did that?

Okay this is WAY more attractive than the other homes Molecule has built. Their design style is improving. Prior homes they built were, for the most part, sort of ‘too busy’. Too many disparate good things packed into a small space in a uniform coloured wood. That’s how most of their other homes went. This one, this one is GREAT.

They’ve fit all those varied good things in without making it look cluttered (even while empty!) or too contrived.

Glad you liked this one! Personally I’ve enjoyed all their builds though 😀

Rhino, you prompted me into checking out their web site and now I am making an appointment to see a doctor. I am even agreeing with Alex so must be going through some drastic personality or trait differences; I see your points but did enjoy just about everything I viewed. I especially like the way they keep in mind marrying two units. (I have slight problems with the marrying thing) I am not struck on the use of blue they use but that is personal preference. I especially like the larger units they build; “Yes” I am so happy to get that out. I would still skid them all and dispense with the trailers.

Now, this is a fabulous tiny home. Love the design and the layout is such an improvement over others that I’ve seen. The staircase is far better than the usual ladder too. This tiny home can actually be lived in with style. Congratulations to Molecule Tiny Homes on a well laid out design!

Bravo! Simple is good, but simple with practical storage is way better!
Now, as to the interiors – I fear there is a bit too much woodgrain in here for me. I think I’d want to brighten up the ceiling with white paint, or paint an accent wall. Something to give it a design spin. But that’s a quibble… this is really really great!

    • Dominick Bundy
      November 4, 2013, 9:49 pm

Yes, I probably would do a little painting here or there or have a accent wall but that would be all.

OK Alex, you have me on this one. I like this little place. Now, I am going to brush my teeth and try to forget that I found something this small which I like.

I am not stuck on the blue but the layout and amenities is good for this size and the stairway to the loft, not bad at all. Don’t you ever tell anyone I said these things and OMG I am really going out there now. Yes, I could live in this as a getaway in the bush someplace and for an extended time with some very slight alterations that are not worth mentioning. Good Job on this little place. (don’t let Cahow see my post here or I will have to eat a lot of crow LOL) PS, I would still skid it and dump the trailer.

    • Alex Pino
      November 6, 2013, 5:08 pm

          November 8, 2013, 4:26 pm

LOL, Docd, that’s it. I am having some problems with my right hand and some nerve damage from the fire still giving me problems (some say I have a lot of nerve in the tone of attitude, I have no idea where they get that but opinions you know) so the hands are typing common sense instead of letting my mind do its thing LOL. This really is a well thought out place with the little tuck and store stairway and kitchen even if only my hands think so. I really think one could de-clutter fast here. I would use that little loft over the door for some sort of a drop down closet for clothing. Damn, hands, I didn’t say those things, now I have to go in and brush my teeth again?

        • Doc
          November 8, 2013, 5:10 pm

          Ralph,
I agree with your comments about this little place. And I have seen some very cool pull down hanging rods that would suit you. They had hydraulic assist for when full of clothes.
It’s just Doc, Docd is my smart phone’s alter ego.

Very nice job. I think I would add some extra storage or drawers under the staircase, and would like to have seen some type of burner or something to heat food. But, otherwise, very nice job.

Not only that Rev Rita, the small loft over the entrance would be great for bin storage.

I would add an outlet on the little kitchen counter by the bathroom looks like a very good place to keep a vitamix. It would be neat to see inside of cupboards for shelves and show doors open for under stair storage. Windows are great and little picket fence charming.

  • Linda
    February 13, 2014, 9:49 am

What a great staircase!! Except for the skylight, I would love to own this beauty! Skylight would be too hot in the summertime. Not sure about the toilet. It looks to be unaccessible since it points toward the tub with no access between it and the tub. That’s odd.

  • Glema
    February 14, 2014, 6:31 am

Ty for sharing, it’s lovely. Two concerns off the top and one quick observation if I may: 1) no insulation this build 2) price is steep and the observation: no latter for that “extra storage loft” just saying, for that price should be more to it i would think. Still as you say, I wouldn’t have to build it. I love the stairway and the balcony styled fall protections on the lofts. ok ty that’s my two cents and a half *winks w a silly grin on her face. Happy trails!

Love this house, but there are three things I would change.
    1. toilet to a flush one
    2. get rid of the door in the shower
    3. put one smaller window in where the big double windows are
Alex how do you get to there web site?

  • Joshua Davis
    August 27, 2014, 2:56 pm

This may be the best one I’ve seen! I think the ONLY thing I would additionally do is have a sliding screen in the bathroom door so you could have a nice breeze without the bugs. Everything about this place is awesome!

These guys are amazing, Alex! I have looked at many of these links you’ve shared with all of us who are fascinated by THOW. Liked some..wondered about some..but these guys have it nailed. I am speechless. Their building seems intuitive. I checked out their website and every home is awesome. I want to work for them! Wish wish wish I could afford to buy one, but I will build myself to keep costs down. But don’t think I won’t be referring to their site for ideas.
These two men are doing real good for the world and I’d love to meet them.
Thanks again, Alex for bringing fine workmanship and quality people to folks like me. Big Sigh…

I’d like more info on molecule homes. The blog and any links to website that are provided, are private. I find that odd and if a company wants business from people interested they shouldn’t restrict people from viewing. I’ll go elsewhere. Might thing out changing this.

    April 5, 2017, 7:10 pm

WOW! I am really impressed. The stairs to the loft would make those midnight runs a lot easier. I think the stairs contribute to the structural integrity of the home too. I Love the fact there is no wasted space in this home. Having a back door ( the one in the bathroom ) is great from a safety standpoint and very practical when it comes to emptying the compost toilet. The woodwork is very relaxing to look at too. Everything is so well thought out. I think the price is reasonable too. You can pay a lot more for a poorly built commercial RV .Only thing I am wondering about is the stove, or lack of one, since I prefer hot meals. Would an induction cooktop fit in the kitchen or maybe a propane stove? As far as an oven is concerned, those little toaster ovens would be great and could hide in the cupboards when not in use.

    • Natalie C. McKee
      April 6, 2017, 7:51 am

Yea I’d love a stove too! I’m sure you could put in a cooktop. I saw a camp stove in a bus the other day that was quite compact. The couple said they cooked a whole pizza in it 🙂

Love the bathroom. I’d put the tub fill on the side wall so you could open the window/door (screened) & soak with a view! This is a well thought out space. Looks like the picket fence is modular so you can tuck the porch up out of the way.

Very pretty. Unlike others, I love the colors;, the interior wood so soft and gentle. Also appreciate the safety rails on loft and stirs, so often missing in other designs. Skylight could be egress too. Might not be too hot, depending on climate and if it faced north or had shade trees.
