$40K and it has not real kitchen, bedroom and the only natural light is from the front doors? Seriously?

Hi Beth, This appears to be a special use dwelling, used only part time. I see a window in the rear wall, and there might be a similar one in the bathroom, although photos don’t show this. When the owner is in residence, both sets of solid doors would be open allowing air to flow through the entire length of the unit. Glad to see your comment!

The individual who owns this must think this is what a tiny house is about – a container with doors that bring in the only light. That is not a kitchen. Alex, you have had container homes with plenty of light, the nicer kitchens. This is not one that I would buy.

The unit is built for durability and security …. we have not cut any holes in the container… it is still an ISO certified shipping container and can be fully locked up when not in use. It can also be shipped by rail or ship without any hassle. Cutting holes for windows eliminates structural integrity and limits shipping options.

If you want lots of windows, this was not built for you…..But if durability and security are important to you, this is the best option available.

I like the idea of using containers, better than lumber for these homes. I agree it’s overpriced for what it is, I’ve been impressed by how some tiny homes with similar footage have better kitchens among other features that I would want to add here. This is another one I would have to remodel if I bought it, but not worth the additional cost. Yes, they are like other purchases, everyone likes different things. Maybe part of the way this one was built like it was, is due to difficulties in keeping them road legal, or some other reason that I am ignorant of. I wish I had the background, patience, or whatever to do this, and have one how I like it. I have liked the idea of containers as buildings since I first heard about them on a Bob Vila TV program, maybe 10 years ago.

Wow, I just converted kg to English measures. The weight given equals more than 4 tons. Yes, these can be moved, but that weight seems like too much to have an economical THOW, since there is no trailer weight or cost accounted for. That seems to be a lot heavier than other homes I have viewed. A THOW is definitely one of my main attractions to the tiny house movement, but I guess I will not be using a container, unless they are reengineered to be lighter.

It can be a THOW, and we do have a purpose built trailer available, but the driver would require a heavy trailer endorsement.

Keep in mind, price is in CDN$, cost in US$ is just over $30,000. We don’t deny being in business to make a profit, but our margins are quite thin. We use top quality components such as household grade fixtures and closed-cell spray foam insulation…. certainly it can be built for less, but we prefer to build a quality product.

The unit is built for durability and security …. we have not cut any holes in the container… it is still an ISO certified shipping container and can be fully locked up when not in use.

It’s a tiny house that can be relocated to where you want. It is NOT a THOW! Big difference. Having said that this is probably one of the least well designed container home that I have seen. Not well designed at all.

And for all the lack of light detractors and naysayers… didst thou not espy the blind over the bedchamber (?) window?

I like the idea of a container home, I would like to have two put together or perhaps three side by side forming a 24 by 80 foot home. Do you know builders in the Southeast USA?

I would too Robert. I am hoping to build soon on land I own in Fort Ogden, FL, so far it is cheaper to purchase a modular home or build a stick built home. Sad to say. I found one home but the builder wanted 140k for it. and it was less than 900 sq feet.

still looking though, but checking out conventional builders now.

This would make a perfect off grid cabin, or hunting shack. Love the idea you can lock it up tight when it’s not in use. I’m actually building something similar myself. I put a window in the side of mine. I don’t think people realize just how much it costs to build something like you have here. Mine is just a empty room with insulation, wood paneling, electrical. Man hours and materials, I can totally see the money you have in it. Great job on it.
