This is William’s DIY Vardo Tiny House on Wheels built by GypsyCampers.com.

From the outside, you’ll see it’s a wagon-style tiny home built right onto a double-axle utility trailer.

When you go inside, you’ll find a one-room living area (no loft) with your bed and storage. Please enjoy, learn more, and re-share below. Thank you!

DMV was a breeze, registered it as a camp trailer.
I have been living in it for the past week and staying warm and dry.
Here are some shots of the trailer as it is now with curtains and cushions, working on an outside kitchen and cook top, Hope to go solar before to long but am using 12v battery for lights and chargers.  Works great so far.
Have wood stove on order. Smallest wood stove I could find.
I am looking  for like minded folks who are traveling and living in the homemade kind of camper I am using. Dream of staring some sort of club, not like the RV clubs that are about by the hundreds for the people who use massive motorhomes, but for the little guy like me who like to keep things simple.

Hi! I saw a similar vardo at a camping event, last spring and decided that had the be the best way to camp. Evar! What sort of storage did you put into it? It’s difficult to tell from the pictures.

Aren’t they awesome? I totally agree. Thanks Laurentia!

What a conversation starter at a campground! William, you have done a great job. I like your exterior color scheme and cheerful interior. I wish you much luck finding agreeable camp mates.

I would love to see a step-by-step build article on this vardo. It looks a lot like these — http://www.gypsycampers.com.

Does the roof lower for travel?

Hi Bill, yup, I updated the article to add that it was built by those guys @ GypsyCampers.com 🙂

I don’t think the roof lowers but not absolutely sure.

Correction… it DOES lower (just updated/added a new pic that William sent me in an e-mail showing it lowered). Pretty awesome!

Overall, I like the concept. However, it is not DIY, or homemade, it was made by a company. The color schemes, inside and out, really do not do it for me. I like no loft. But outside cooking, really? And no mention of an inside toilet, so imagine that is outside also. Bah. There is a whole lot that apparently not considered about the interior of this. Could be a whole lot better, with a bit of thought and planning.

Yeah it’s not really DIY I guess I goofed up there! But as William said, it is built by a couple of guys/carpenters who also build furniture/etc.

      Totally agree with you Theo.

Friend Theo, Gypsy campers is not a company. Its just a couple of guys who know how to build these little campers. Brad the master carpenter makes his living restoring furniture among other things. It has a composting toilet hidden under a seat inside.
No problem if you don’t care for this kind of camper. We can’t all have the same ideas of whats what.

William, I agree with Theo but I also commend you on your choices. These are all personal spaces for the owner. Who cares what others think, they didn’t build or pay for it and they have no right to put others down. As for me, it’s not to my style but my style may not be to your liking either. And although it’snot a DIY, who cares. It’s yours and you love it. That’s cool. That’s the most important thing here. Thanks for sharing with us.

I think what’s important, William, is that you have something that suits you. I hope you will enjoy many happy adventures in your vardo.

I love it. If one wanted to travel around a lot this is definitely the way to go. The bigger THOW are not practical to be moving every month but I could see me touring around the country with extended stops in each area that I wanted to check out.
As soon as you said there was a toilet under a seat I was sold lol

I love it!! I am living in a THOW I built 5 yrs ago on a 22ft travel trailer frame. I am wanting to go smaller and this is so cool, its nice to live with less and its even really sweet to have others to share with, it keeps us connected, a shower here a load of laundry there, its what should keep us together as a human race!! Well done, communal living is the way to make it all happen and sooner or later it will be easier to have just that happen with tiny houses. Fresno California just made it legal to have a tiny house in your backyard!!

Do you know anything about the process in getting a city to legalize THOW’s? I’m starting from scratch where I live and any info is appreciated, thank you, Marla

I love it! What kind of mechanism is used to raise/lower the roof? Specifically, what powers the mechanism?

I am asking $10,000 USD but would be quite willing to trade or bicker.
