What It’s Really Like Being a Tiny House Couple

Do you think you and your partner could live in just over 100 square feet?

This tiny house couple interviewed each other about what it’s like sharing a small space with the person you love. They asked questions like:

  • What do you do when you fight?
  • What is the BEST part about living in a tiny house with someone else?
  • What is the WORST part about living in a tiny house with someone else?
  • How has living tiny changed your relationship?
  • What is the ideal Valentine’s day gift for a tiny houser?

What are some of the pros and cons? Always knowing where the other person is, but never being able to sit quietly and read without being interrupted. When you get sick, both people will almost definitely get sick, but you are close and can take care of each other.

And best of all, tiny living can give you freedom. If this couple didn’t live a tiny house, they’d still be in LA and at 3:30 in the afternoon and would be sitting in cubicles (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Hear it all below!

Not so promising when the very first comments are about killing him and it continues from there with the many ways he annoys her. I think that more space would do their relationship a world of good. Love the dog.

Yeah, but it gets way better. And every couple has their moments.

I love this video. I am so happy you shared this, it personifies the flexibility and fun two people can share when they live in close quarters and not stress over materialistic junk. In honor of them I will be on the look out for tiny roses and dumb cat videos! When I need tiny house motivation to clear out my clutter I will watch this video again. And look at my smoke detector with a weary eye!

I think this was a fail. In the first second of the video she talks about murdering him. I didn’t even watch the rest of the video after that. Ugh.

The point is to keep watching it. If you couldn’t tell, it was kind of a joke.

Grace. It’s been a long time since I commented. Your comment brought me back here, so I clicked on the video again. —- Watched 18 seconds. When she mentions murdering him, even the husband’s expression is like, “Who would ask such a question?” (I would say, “who would ask such a question in front of total strangers?”) Then they go on to discuss how they BOTH agree that she is MUCH more likely to murder him than him murder her. ALL in the first 18 seconds. I find it inappropriate. Rather ugly. I haven’t had time yet to find a reason to like them, and she is talking about murder? I know she is kidding. It’s just not funny. It might be tolerable if the video started out joyous or encouraging, but it doesn’t, it STARTS with murder. Why not lament their dirty laundry stains, or the problems they have with passing gas in a small space . . . both of those are also inappropriate as your opening remarks to total strangers. — Now make no mistake. I am sure they are lovely people and I have NO fear she is actually going to murder him. — That being said, if you knocked on MY door and introduced yourself as my new neighbor, and I welcomed you into my home and then I started talking casually with my husband about whether or not he will murder me, or I will murder him, wouldn’t you feel just a tad uncomfortable? It’s like that. — We are not good friends of yours. You know nothing about us, nothing about our personality or humor, nothing. It’s not endearing, it’s just awkward. It’s in bad taste. What would cause me to watch more of the video?

I do think it was meant to be funny — I’m sorry you were offended by it! — Tiny House Talk Team

Living in a tiny house alone can be challenging, but as a couple, it does put stress on the relationship if your habits are not somewhat alike. Imagine living with a messy person and you are the neatnik. Just one thing out of place and it could drive you up the wall. Or take someone that likes the music loud and you are the quiet one. Unless you go outside or have he/she wear headphones, that’s another problem. I could go on and on, but you get the picture. Personally, I think TH living should be for a very compatible couple, otherwise be ready for a fight.

I think every couple needs to decide for themselves. As a single person I would like 400 sq ft. But as a couple I would extend that to 700 sq ft. Aging gives great perspective into what you can and cannot handle.

I feel sorry for the guy. She seems really annoying and constantly irritated.

Yup. While the house is cute, I suspect that it will be a bachelor pad before long. I know that I couldn’t do it in such a small space. The hands that reach out to hug would rapidly start aiming for the neck. 😉

Wow, this video is seriously being misunderstood by some people. They are being funny with a hint of whimsical humor that is playful. They depict the kind of couple who could build and share a tiny house because they are good close friends who share the tiny living dream with a sense of humor and perspective and know how to work together. If this were a canned video with idyllic agreement on the joys of a tiny freezer and a loft bed made by hand, I would have passed the video up and watched annoying cat videos instead. Lighten up and relax, this is a great video that is making my friends and family smile and consider tiny home living.

I find incessant complaining annoying, not funny. Granted, I haven’t watched it since yesterday, but I can’t recall one positive comment she made.

It’s all about compromising, communicating, changing, creating a new self, outlook in things. Like many of the quotes given at the end, it’s about being content with what you have. If you forget why you chose the woman in the first place, then living in a small/tiny place is a short step in going mad.

My dogs absolutely adore me. They never give me any lip. The only whining they do is when I leave the house to run errands. And I still wouldn’t want them in such close proximity 24/7. Just saying..
