Wayne’s Awesome $1000 DIY Wooden Teardrop Trailer

This is Wayne’s Awesome $1000 DIY Wooden Teardrop Trailer that he built in Wisconsin.

Wayne owned an old aluminum trailer he had previously built and decided to transform it into a portable bedroom that he can pull with his Corvette. Now that’s fun! It runs off solar panels. Because he had a lot of the materials on hand already, Wayne only spent about $1,000 on the whole project. Practical and inexpensive — perfect!

Wow! Gorgeous! You could be a luxury boat builder! Your build looks much more solid and luxurious than factory built teardrops. The Corvette looks nice too.

As a wood builder, very nice and a better shape than the original ones. As an EV person by putting gentle curves in the roof, sides it could be actually aerodynamic.
And tuck in those wheels under it or put aero wheelpants on them and bend alum in an aero shape over the axle.
Doing these would cut the power/gas needed to pull it by 50%.
As for plans there are so, so many online for free, just google tear drop trailer.
They are very simple to make and by leaving the rear ending a lot higher, makes the aero better as the original angle was too steep.

You can buy the trailer frame that these teardrops are built on at Harbor Freight for about $300.00.

This is nice. About how high is the interior? Interior photos create the impression trailer is wider than 4 feet but wheel wells say otherwise. The builder must have used many recycled materials as certain parts alone (vents with fan, power inverter, solar power) could easily surpass the $1000 mark if purchased new. Resale value my guess $4000 to $5000 to start depending on options. I say this because I purchased a teardrop built on a Harbor Freight trailer that was not so nice for near $3000.

Wow! What a beautiful exterior! The whole camper is amazing, but the kitchen is great with that cooking arrangement and vent for the gas. I love it. Wish there could be more pics of the inside, like where you sit to watch TV. I am guessing those pillows would be moved to the other side. That is another great idea, to have pillows that can be arranged how you need them instead of one huge mattress. I love this!

I’m on disability and its been extremely difficult for me to purchase one of these. However, the ones you’ve built are phenomenal. I love them all. Can we come up with something for me that’s inexpensive?

What a beautiful job! What is the wood that you used for the exterior cladding? I was wondering if epoxied plywood beadboard would hold up?
    Thanks
