I don’t think you have actually seen Christopher & Malissa’s tiny house before and we’ve got a couple of great pictures to share with you below.

You can get more details and pics over at Apartment Therapy, too, where you can also vote for their tiny house.

It’s a part of the Small Cool 2012 contest over at Apartment Therapy and it would be awesome if you’d be willing to vote because I think we can help them win.

Malissa lives in her tiny house with her husband and since they custom designed the house for themselves, it suits them just right.

It’s 170 square feet total with an upstairs sleeping loft. There’s also a fully featured kitchen, built-in couch, desk, and bathroom.

The cathedral ceilings definitely help make it feel open and spacious. The interior wood siding (I believe it’s tongue and groove pine) also gives it a wonderful look and feel.

I imagine that there’s storage underneath the custom built couch and I like how the iMac computer is hung on the wall so that you can fold down the table if you wanted to and use it purely as an entertainment center. Now that’s multifunctional.

Be sure to go to Apartment Therapy so you can check out the rest of the pictures along with Malissa’s write up and then vote so we can see a tiny house win the contest.

I love, Love, LOVE the shower!! (As seen on the Apartment Therapy website after you log in). As wine barrels can be prone to leaking once the wine is removed and they begin dry, I am wondering how well it is working. I also like the copper tube shower curtain ring. Very creative and esthetically pleasing.

      Vanessa-
Thanks for the complement!!! We love our shower also, and believe it or not… it works great! We don’t have to really worry about drying out, since we use it every day for our showers. As long as it stays fairly moist everything is good to go. When we bought it, the barrel sat for one month without any water in it. I started to see some cracks, but we tested, and even then, no leaks! This is the 5th month that we have been using it, and no issues at all. 🙂

I really like the paneling and floors. Going to the Apt. site in a moment to LIKE the project. I am in the process of building two tiny houses, one to put on the Texas coast and another in near the Columbia River Gorge. Every time I see a different design, I get ideas. So both of my tiny houses are a work in progress. But your innovations help me improve on mine. Thanks! I have always wondered why people don’t use pull down stairs like they have to attics in houses? I plan to use them in mine because they stay hidden except when needed and when needed, they have hand rails built in, a must for a klutz like me.

Hey John great idea on the pull out attic stairs. I guess this just might block air flow to the loft, or do you have another way than I’m thinking? Thanks!

Alex, you can still have the loft on either or both ends with the middle area open to the first floor without affecting this type of stair. Just use the pulldown stairs at one end of either side of the loft area.

I voted for your house. If I ever get one I love your plans!
Is there a way to get them?

    • April 19, 2012, 2:21 pm

Not sure what plans, if any, they used as a base. I’d be curious to know, too.

Excellent use of the space! Well laid out and no clutter. All the extra windows are wonderful. Nice contrast with the darker flooring. You guys did a great job!!!

Was going to vote, and noticed two different numbers for your entry… #706 and #707 (when looking at all entries) Is this a mistake, or are you #706 for the actual vote? Love the house too!

I LOVE this design!! Especially the kitchen, which appears to have a good deal of counter space/work area. Love the fact that the kitchen’s set off from the living space, too; its own littl room. And the wine barrel shower basin is a great idea. Is the space behind the ladder a closet? Seems as if there’s a lot more storage in this house as compared with other tiny home designs I’ve seen. Great space! I voted for you, too!

    • April 27, 2012, 9:25 am

      Marianna-
Yeah, the space behind the ladder is a deep closet that holds the kitty litter on the bottom (cats access it from the bathroom) and the top has Christopher’s hanging shirts, pants and camera gear.
      Thanks for the vote!!
