Cute, but feels unnecessarily cramped inside. The kitchen area, in particular, shows a lack of foresight (sorry to be critical, but I have to be honest). Probably too late to change things in this already-built unit, but if building a new one from the same plans, I’d make the following adjustments: Widen the bathroom by around a foot; this should allow for an inward-swinging bathroom door along the bath wall next to the circular staircase. This frees-up the kitchen wall, presently crammed with just a sink and stove, creating some actual kitchen counter space. (It’d also widen the spaces afforded the shower and toilet, which also appear too constricted, as currently laid-out). You’d then have a functional, though still small, kitchenette, or galley kitchen. Why not make an L-shaped kitchen, with the counter connecting with the fridge, presently off by its lonesome self? Or just a long galley kitchen along that same wall, and forget about adjusting the bathroom altogether? Though the eating bar is attractive, there doesn’t need to be two eating areas in such a small house. The old-style, drop-leaf table by the staircase would be an adequate dining area. Right now, it just seems to be decorative and taking-up space. The house itself appears well-made and has great potential to be a super-cute and functional home. The kitchen layout is the main shortcoming of the present interior design. It’d be a much more comfortable and attractive place to rent-out, possibly yielding repeat business, if this kitchen design shortfall were corrected.

Thanks, Patrick! Wow, I didn’t think about all of that, and I appreciate you sharing your ideas to improve it 🙂

My experience from talking to people who do AirBnB type accomodation (I personally haven’t) is that they generally don’t cook in them, except for maybe breakfast. Given that then the place is probably fine as it is for what it is.

I agree that the kitchen needs to be redesigned. The stove in the corner and no counter space would be a nightmare. Connect the fridge with a counter, get the stove out of the corner and add some storage and it will be so much more livable.

I agree about a kitchen remodel but the rest is lovely. I’d buy it, nice little outdoor relaxing/ entertaining area. Love it.

Thanks, Laura! I like it too. With a few minor updates it’d be even better. But for me, it’s totally fine as is even 😀

Honey, I shrunk the farmhouse! Adorable from the outside, but as others have pointed out, the interior could use some improvement.

Hmm! Looks like a good candidate for conversion to a pair of stacked conexs. Can I get a floor plan of it? John

I like the kitchen layout but who needs such a big frig? You have that long counter/table to chop vegetables on.
Things I would done differently, make the bathroom door a pocket door. And upstairs where is the hanging closet? There is a rod but not enclosed. I love the spiral staircase a great improvement over those ladders a lot of Tiny Homes have. As with others, I too am confused on the two doors? Is that because of building codes?

It is in New Zealand. There needs to be an alternative exit in case of fire. Wouldn’t be very good if a fire broke out and the only quick exit was “through” the flames.

Accommodation houses with a second story also need to have a fire escape for the same reasons.

I was thinking about this. But over here if the second story window
is large enough it would be considered an egress window. But wouldn’t this house just be totally amazing with a complete wrap around porch? Then of course you could go out the window and across the porch and climb down the wisteria trellis ( I really see this house with a wisteria trellis LOL!)

Hmmmm, is there a Harrisonburg, Virginia in New Zealand?

Carol… “I” need such a big fridge. Besides that is a fridge/freezer. Not everybody is parked next to a supermarket you know… and being 90% vegetarian there is NO WAY I am going to compromise my health by not having my food refrigerated. And my place, not a tiny home (yet), is 6 kilometres to a real supermarket. I don’t relish travelling that distance every day to buy food. Once a week is more than enough for my poor old body thanks.

This house looks like it might be a LEGAL TH!
Building code requires two doors and a stairway to a sleeping area….a ladder is illegal.

This is better than a lot I have seen…

      …but a ladder “is” a stairway. Technically.

What a boring design . Looks like a man planned the kitchen, no counter space, big ugly fridge sitting by itself as soon as you walk in. Exterior is nice but interior has no taste at all.

I agree with the things Patrick mentioned — however, I would not have a in or out swing door in a small house — pocket doors are the way to go. I agree on moving the bathroom door to the side where the stairs are giving you that wall to work with to enlarge the kitchen some. Also I would make the counter a more usable kitchen counter with standard kitchen cabinets beneath and hung cabinets on the wall above — If they are in love with the sign, instead of putting cabinet doors on the upper cabinets they could put hinges on the sign so that it swings up to open and have a small hook in a ceiling beam to hold it open while your putting things in or getting them out. I would also put a wall or movable screen to block the side of the refrigerator from the living room area.

In the bathroom, I think I would swap the placement of the sink and the toilet which would allow for a slightly bigger shower and instead of having the entry to the shower on a side I might consider putting it at the outside corner.

I like the curved stairway, but I would build in a storage unit under it or build a cabinet on wheels that could be rolled in and out for additional storage. – I also think the hanging clothes unit upstairs need some kind of enclosure.

I do like what they did with the upstairs and I also agree that the outside area is a nice touch. A lot could be done with this little cottage without all that much additional expense that would make it a tad more livable. But for weekend stays etc. it is just fine the way it is and far better than a hotel room!!

    What more does one need.
The less is better really works here.
I would appreciate this space and sleep peacefully
knowing that I don’t need a huge house just to spend time to eat, and sleep in.
You are truly blessed and a humble.

Awesome looking tiny house, but I bet it cost a pretty penny because of that nice parcel of land it sits on….

I’m sorry to ask such a basic question, but how does one get furniture on the second floor?

I still like it … And I have a really great memory as a kid going to visit my Dad at the fire house, and they had a spiral staircase that I liked so much and every time I see one I think of him…
