If you like double-decker bus to motorhome conversions as I do, you’re in the right place!

This list of amazing DIY bus homes was inspired by Ron Collins, a Tiny House Newsletter subscriber, who bought a 1980 Bristol Double Decker Bus that listed for him.

In fact, this post is meant to serve as inspiration as to what you can do with a double-decker bus if you’re able to find one and willing to take on the task of converting it into a tiny (err.. I should say ‘small’) home, right? Either way, please enjoy and re-share below! Thank you.

John Bowden and Marleen Bowden-Schelvis have spent 13 years and £35,000 stripping down and rebuilding the 1976 double-decker bus.

It boasts a kitchen, bathroom, lounge, bedroom and top-deck sun terrace.

The couple, who are fans of sustainable living, have also installed solar panels and wind generators to power all the bus’s mod cons.

At first glance, the sight of a tiny 1960s car inside a bus recalls the finale to movie classic The Italian Job.

But engineer Graham Smith has no intention of dumping his small Fiat 500 over the side of a mountain.

Instead, the 62-year-old has spent 20 years converting his 1968 Daimler Fleetline double-decker bus into an all mod-cons home away from home.

I LOVE double decker buses and want one sooo bad to travel around the country in. I’d keep it simple on both floors, with the kitchen and a bathroom(with shower)/washer-dryer unit on the ground floor and sitting area with a TV. Upstairs would be a spacious bedroom and graphic design studio and a small bathroom (toilet only). I would want it to be as open and airy as possible. The possibilities are endless! *Sigh*

I’ve always loved the concept of converted Double Deckers as a living space in which you could travel the length and breadth of our wonderful and magnificent Australian continent .. We had DDB’s as public buses in Sydney from the 1930’s up until the early 1980’s and there are still a few floating around .. Australia is larger than Europe and roughly the same size as the USA .. Alas for me this dream may never come true due to financial constraints and all of the stuff that life seems to demand of us .. It may still happen one day .. I’m only 45 after all ..

Awesome post! I’m fascinated by bus conversions, so it’s cool to see what different folks have done with them.

    Pity I don’t have money/time/parking/construction skills for that double-decker posted earlier…. 🙁

I think the vehicle in the kitchen is especially nice. Ahhh, the sweet smell of engine and gas fumes with coffee. And it is obviously quite safe to have that in the same place as you eat. Special people.

Every time I see a double-decker conversion, I hope to see that someone’s cut all the 1st-level ceiling out except for a bunk, to make more headroom.

As a 6’10” person, I would love to find an RV with >7ft ceilings. The highest I’ve been in so far is 6’8″…
