I like Macy’s! And Ella’s, what about little yellow’s kitchen?

    Alpha and Omega—First and last!

But–there are elements of a LOT of these I like—the tiny stove and oven in the Uruguay cabin; the practical uses of things in the “Off Grid” cabin; the wall of shelves in Shaye and Toms! Altho if you moved the place everything would ahve to be boxed up—but as a stationary unit this would be something I would want. I also liked the several ovens and micros on shelves. Gives you more counter space–something I have little enough of in an actual house!

Hey Alex, nice post. Can you do the same for living areas? I am having a hard time finding nice comfortable living room areas for tiny houses and would be interested to see what you can find. So many of them are just a couple of uncomfortable low back armchairs or a bench seat. I am looking for ideas on a comfortable space that can be used all day.

    thanks.

#9 very cozy but roomy to move around. I love the whole tiny house. Its just adorable.

I like #2 with all of the counter space, a place to sit, and shelving. You are a genius, Alex, for putting these all together for our perusal. Thank you:-)

I’m not a huge fan of galley style kitchens but I really am drawn to Macy’s Kitchen. I think the little French Door at the end of the room adds a euro element that I’ve not seen in many tiny homes and I don’t care for so much wood, so the white walls draw me in. I think I could whip up a nice little meal there.

    • elizabeth
      September 19, 2014, 2:56 pm

I feel the same! I also love the windows in Macy’s and Tom & Shaye’s. With light paint schemes and lots of ambient light, these galley’s look much bigger than the are, and both seem to have practical, functional design, too.

  • Michael
    February 20, 2014, 6:20 pm

Kitchen planning is obviously not a specialty of these guys. For the workflow its essential if somebody is a right or left handler. The no 3 Tumbleweed kitchen and no 1 are a good example for a left handler while no 2 and 10 seems to be designed for a right handler.
Kitchen work usually starts with getting ingredients (fridge and dry), cleaning (sink), chopping and preparing and finally cooking and plating.
In a tiny house the fridge has to be located where it fits and usually everything is in a range but the above examples are showing that a proper planning can be done.

    I like 10 first and 9 second

    • Mark Guidry
      August 18, 2014, 5:48 pm

I’m just the other way around. I like #9 the best and #10 the second.
I also like the bed room in #9. A regular bed in it. At 70 yrs old and bad
knees and back and other aches and pains I would not like to try climbing
a ladder to sleep or get some rest. Also it has a large refer so that one doesn’t have to get down on the floor to find the yogurt in the morning.
#9 is also most pleasing to the eye, even old ones.

  • Lisa

6 is my favorite and then 10

  • Otessa Regina Compton

I am torn between Number Three and Number 9. I like these the best.

  • Rita
    February 20, 2014, 7:55 pm

#1, 9 & 10 with # 10 as the best. I need more than an under counter fridge, so a RV Fridge would work so much better for me.

  • wim

i loved them all! but #9 was my fave!

  • CathyAnn
    February 20, 2014, 8:29 pm

I like Macy’s (#1) the best, but they all have their good points. A lot depends on how much room there is to work with. One of the big plusses for Macy’s is the sliding door, no door opening and getting in the way of working in the kitchen. I also like the open feeling of it due to the paint color and open shelving above the counter. Having that door at the end of the area really helps a lot too!

  • Les Vrolyk

I’m loving 1 and 5…I like the windows and light!

    #1 & #10

  • Ginger
    February 20, 2014, 10:11 pm

I like 10 because of the clean look, bright colors and the larger fridge (although maybe too large?). I like 8 because of the simplicity and openness.

  • Annie
    February 21, 2014, 1:22 pm

So many great ones, but I think my favorite is #2, the Butterfly Kitchen. Love the countertop and that clean wood look.

      Good pick, Annie!

  • Saint Phlip
    February 21, 2014, 2:23 pm

I really like it when you have a bunch of things to compare- the idea about the living space was very good. Could also see you doing comparisons of other elements of the THs and PMs.

Didn’t really see a favorite in this batch, but I found at least one element in each of them I like, Still don’t see any ideas any better than the one I have for myself, but half the fun is in the looking 😉

    # 7 Zen (love it!)
    #10 NICE !

  • Rich
    February 21, 2014, 9:25 pm

Similar to Saint Phlip; not fair to compare personal needs, budgets, aesthetics. In context with the whole house design/functionality, I most appreciate 11, 12, 14, 1, 5, 8, and the odom’s, all for different reasons.

  • YKG
    February 22, 2014, 10:09 pm

Odd. I didn’t see my favorite in this batch though I’m pretty sure I’ve seen it on this site before. I’ve got that one bookmarked more than a few times for their smart and beautifully detailed counter work and shelving solutions.

  • Brian
    April 8, 2014, 7:43 pm

    5. Shaye & Tom’s Shabby Chic Kitchen is the best for me although there are
many runner ups. All the windows stood out for me with the long bench underneath and so much light.

  • Kim
    April 8, 2014, 9:32 pm

I love the look and feel of #10. I would replace one cupboard with an appliance cabinet, with a drop door to hold them when they pull out and electrical built in, and kickspace drawers for things like cookie sheets.

  • Nikki
    April 8, 2014, 10:53 pm

I like #10 the best; #9 is a close second – #10 seems to be the most functional; a full fridge, decent sized sink, a real stove with oven, microwave, upper and lower cabinets for storage, and even a window! Now all they need is one of those neat little in-sink dishwashers . . . so when can I move in?

  • Michael
    April 9, 2014, 12:00 am

Andrew Odom’s is my favorite because I love to cook.
    Followed by 3 and 16.

  • Jan
    April 9, 2014, 12:02 am

I stayed in #15 last month and it worked very well. What you don’t see are the views out the windows or hear the chickens in the yard and the seagulls calling. It is a marvelous tiny house!

    • Alex
      August 19, 2014, 10:15 am

      That must have been fun!

#3 and #10 are great. Lots of good ideas!

  • Paul
    April 9, 2014, 4:18 am

I like 2 best, good workflow from a single standpoint.

I like 13 as my second choice… but.but.but… the guys name is Brett not Bryan!

Bryce was the guy who interviewed Brett… but certainly, there was no Bryan, so it’s true… there is no Life of Bryan… LOL

  • Maria
    April 9, 2014, 8:39 am

one, nine, and ten would be my choices. But it all depends on the size of the tiny house you want to build.

  • Curry Bullington
    April 9, 2014, 5:10 pm

My top three are the Log Oak Cabin tiny kitchen, the Little Beach Cottage kitchen and Macy’s tiny kitchen.

Those were my three also…in that order 🙂

  • Katydidit
    April 28, 2014, 10:59 am

All good pics. I love lighter, but still on the rustic side so spaces, so 1,5, and 12 would be my favorites out of these to live in. All would be good to weekend in!

  • Barb B
    May 25, 2014, 8:25 pm

The little yellow beach kitchen is still the one for me! Fell in love with it and the entire interior the first time I saw it. Also another one I liked but it didn’t make the top 10, was the all white kitchen in the Proto Haus. I liked the nifty arrangement of the stove nook and semi-enclosed fridge–Also I like a galley kitchen where you can work back and forth. I really like to cook and need full size appliances (even if small). But if someone would drop the tiny yellow beach HOUSE in my lap, I would be a very happy woman!

  • Otessa Regina Compton
    June 18, 2014, 1:33 pm

I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT I AM TORN BETWEEN 9, 13, 16, AND 17. THESE ALL LOOK NICE TO ME.

    • Alex
      August 19, 2014, 10:14 am

LOL, yup, really hard to only pick one! The most ideal thing would be to create a mashup of your favorites 😀

  • Martha
    June 18, 2014, 4:39 pm

#10, Little Beach Cottage Kitchen would be my favorite, and I could definitely live with this kitchen. I love the white cabinets and yellow walls, plus the full size fridge is a plus, although not 100% necessary.
#13, New Zealand Artist Tiny Kitchen is 2nd favorite, mainly because it is so sleek.
#17, I prefer an L shape rather than a galley kitchen if it’s too narrow, but think I could live with this one.

  • Kate
    June 18, 2014, 7:45 pm

No. 1 looks like a kitchen I can work in. Appears to have plenty of pantry space and work counters.
No. 13 also has plenty of work space.
I remember liking No. 6 also but I forget how much space was in it.

  • J.D.
    June 19, 2014, 1:36 am

#9…4 burner stove w/oven, double sink, and a full ‘fridg…that works best for me!

  • Linda
    June 19, 2014, 9:58 pm

LOOOOVE the tiny beach cottage kitchen!

  • Ellen T
    June 20, 2014, 9:04 am

Love #5 & #7 because of the counter space and windows. I can do a lot in a small kitchen if there is some good counter space. Some kitchens look claustrophobic with little tiny windows and low ceilings. Long term happiness in a small space means you don’t mind being in there day in/out in all seasons and weather.
#11 is just a hot mess. Some folks are okay with that, but it would drive me nuts.

  • Kimberley C
    August 18, 2014, 2:19 pm

#10, because it does not look cramped. Plenty of good space for all things kitchen.

  • Martha F.
    August 18, 2014, 2:52 pm

I definitely love the #9 kitchen. It is compact and attractive, and has full size fridge, stove, and sinks. When I viewed the rest of the house I thought it seemed dark, but that could just be the photography, time of day etc. It needs more light and brightness, but the kitchen was just about perfect for me.

    • Alex
      August 19, 2014, 10:14 am

      Nice choice, Martha!

  • Stacie
    August 18, 2014, 3:06 pm

What about the Music City House Kitchen? I have two favorites Music City House Kitchen and Jay Austin’s Kitchen. LOTS of Windows 🙂

Good call, Stacie! We need to update this list. Or do a re-take 🙂

  • Margie
    August 18, 2014, 6:47 pm

    Number 9 absolutely my fav!

  • Kathy
    August 18, 2014, 9:37 pm

9,10, 13 I love to cook, so I need as close as possible to full size sink, stove/oven, and fridge. Number 9 has the cottage charm I would like.

  • August 19, 2014, 5:41 am

I love #5, except for one thing. I need windows in my kitchen, and this is all window; I would be wanting to study and eat and work here, too.

Except that I never like a bathroom that opens into the kitchen space; you’re always running the risk of mingling odors. Beef stew and composting toilet? Yuck!

I could live with #8, the Boulder kitchen. Lots of light, a cross breeze if it’s needed, no bathroom in sight. I would paint it a happier colour and be happy.

And #15 is good, too. Nice wood, windows on two sides, a “breakfast” bar that I would use for eating and work. But there’s the bathroom again! I would be moving walls around to open the door on the end rather than the side. Or even to open the b’room door to the outside, as if it were an outhouse; anything rather than into the kitchen area!

I have lived with a kitchen about this size; a two-burner hotplate and a small sink, with a roll-out chest freezer underneath the rest of the counter space, and a small fridge beside it. It was fine, even when I served Christmas dinner to the whole assembled family.

    It’s hard to only pick one… I like #16, #10 and #7 😀

  • Terro
    August 19, 2014, 7:56 pm

I liked 4, 9, and 10. I didn’t like the kitchens that had the stove or sink next to a wall (on the side). It seems to cramped for me. I also need an oven. The larger appliances are a plus. But weren’t some of the houses larger than what would be on a trailer. Not a far comparison.

    • Alex
      August 19, 2014, 9:16 pm

      Thanks Terro- good picks!

  • Terri Ford
    August 20, 2014, 6:21 pm

I have two favorites. Numbers 1 and 10. They have ‘real’ kitchens; oven/stove, large sink and frig plus enough counter to actually cook full meals. I would never consider building a house to live in without a full kitchen as I cook at least two meals a day. Anything less would not work for me as I eat out less than once a month.

    • Alex
      August 20, 2014, 6:38 pm

Good picks Terri! I’d also like a kitchen I can use everyday.

  • September 15, 2014, 6:11 am

I love #3, the tiny dream kitchen.

#10, but not white cabinets. I have those now and I have a bugger of a time keeping it looking clean. Of course, a houseful of kids and pets doesn’t help! The layout is the most functional for a large family’s needs in a small space, though.

1, 9, 10. Yay, bigger refrigerators! Less trips to the grocery store.

  • Pamela Flowers
    June 19, 2015, 4:27 pm

Hard to decide! #1 & #7, I think. Checking out all the stoves. So hard to find a stove I love. I want one big enough to cook in and on (not a turkey but a chicken and cookies!) and propane, but not 30″. Too big. Help!?

  • June 19, 2015, 5:35 pm

I like the appliance sizes in number 9, but the layout in number 11 would work better for two people in the kitchen at once. I have an L-shaped section of my downstairs greatroom for the kitchen. Upgrading to a larger propane fridge and four-burner stove with oven was a huge improvement when we moved in full time. I like the open shelf concept. Things are handy and give the kitchen a functionally attractive.

  • Patricia Chang
    January 19, 2017, 4:17 am

I like the Little Beach Cottage Kitchen. Much of it depends, however, if this is your full time home or a vacation home. If I am going to call it home, I want at least an apartment sized frig with a decent freezer compartment, a 2-3 burner stove, and a microwave. I would like a 2 compartment sink and as much storage as possible. Lots of shelves that can be open, or not. There needs to be a vent to vent out cooking smoke and odors. In small spaces, I see that as a health necessity. A window is okay, but not so much fun in a cold climate. There should be a backsplash. It would be nice to have a space for a washer/dryer. I don’t need a dishwasher. I would also want a space for plants. They clean the air. I want it bright and airy and a fold down table.

    • Natalie
      January 19, 2017, 5:57 am

      I agree. A full-time kitchen needs things a part-time one doesn’t. And I cook a lot 🙂

  • Patty
    January 19, 2017, 4:40 am

I like #9. It has everything I need in a small space plus a window.

    • Natalie
      January 19, 2017, 5:56 am

      Great choice!

  • January 19, 2017, 4:01 pm

Lots of choices, thanks for the photos!.
I am live vegan and use the kitchen a LOT so whichever provides the most counter space/storage is best, the best would be the ones with two sides (versus one LONG kitchen). I do not need a dishwasher or clothes washer or dryer (i go to the laundrymat). Amazing how many options and choices there are for tiny homes, and some people do not care much for a big kitchen. namaste’, rachel

I need a big kitchen too 🙂 I just do all my cooking at home and rarely eat out!

You go girl! kudos to people who make their own from scratch or whatever!. Everyone makes their own choice. I live mostly on fresh veggies and fruits. There is sooo much take out food today most people just grab and go because of time issues but i find that nutrition suffers this way, and, you get the energy of the person who makes it in your food. namaste’, rachel

Yes cooking at home is a great way to go! Although it sure does take time 🙂

Make an incredible change in your health by NOT cooking!.
Consume 50% (or more) of what you consume as RAW fresh fruits, vegetables (like salads). Takes no time to eat this way and you MAXIMIZE nutrition, fiber, vitality, energy, and it is easy to lose weight……
(You lose up to 85% of all nutrients by cooking food).

From what you showed here I would say #13 is first follwed very close by #5.
I do think that the Andrew Odom’s kitchen should of been on this list, and if it had that would of been my first choice.

There are way more and better examples of tiny house kitchens. I’d like to see more kitchens like the Morrison’s.

My favorite is #10. I have to have an oven and full refrigerator.

OK, I am putting in a vote for No. 14, simply because I am entertained by the notion of sleeping in the kitchen.

I like the cottage kitchen because it has closed cabinets, I’ve never been a fan of open shelving.. you have to pack up everything if your going to move it each time and that’s a pain.. but I realize it’s for modern design of which I’m not a fan either but it works well in a tiny home

I also prefer closed shelving/cabinets. I’m just not organized enough for open ones haha.

I like #1 Macy’s contemporary kitchen. It has great counter space, and I love how bright and light it is.

I think the California Tiny House is my favorite because it appears to be a “plug n play” kitchen and I’m a huge fan of that concept. Only bring out the cooking appliance that you need specific to the meal you’re cooking. My ideal kitchen has a sink and refrigerator and larger toaster oven and a sizeable bench for working.
