Fossickers Hut was designed by artistic owners, Craig and Jodie, as a nod to the early settlers that once inhabited the area. Beautiful handcrafted features fill the little space, right down to the ceramic light shades and hand-made-by-Jodie individual plates and bowls in the camp kitchen. An old coal range in the lean-to kitchen, and outdoor, fire-heated bath, adds to the historic vibe. Inside the hut, a pot belly stove and a comfortable queen-size bed create a cosy, inviting space. A roof loft, accessed by ladder, is an adventurous sleeping spot for the kids.

Bird lovers will enjoy the cheeky native weka, and abundance of fantails, tui, woodpigeon and morepork in the bush surrounds. At night, soak in the outdoor bath under the stars.

This is such a sweet little place. The fact that it’s in New Zealand doesn’t hurt either. I was sort of put out that it didn’t have an oven until I saw that gorgeous old-fashioned stove in the outdoor kitchen. I love to bake in those stoves.

The cabin is very pretty inside and when I wasn’t baking of reading, I would be in that tub, out under the stars. Thanks for posting this beautiful little place, Alex.

Rustic but sheek…! That back to nature styling with the tube on the deck, and rustic but sheek styling throughout it’s interior is very inviting… Like a magazine advertisement… You just want to go take a bath out on the deck in the open air….! Boy those New Zealand’s know how to live… Just makes you want to pack a rucksack and hop a plane out…!

Oh my goodness, you husband and I have a very small nest egg amount but this is what we want so bad . Our children have grown and we want to go back to Washington mountains and live very humble and very tiny but we don’t even know how to start,we are now in SD and just makes me cry when I see these tiny homes and living cuz I think our little nest egg will run out before we learn how this is done and how to start.
Please someone help a ageing couple figure this out, both not the greatest health but this is know we can handle,no more city life or big home.
    Begging for help ,The Patricks

I also want to retire in a tiny house on a small piece of land out in the country/woods. Only thing is, on T.V. those tiny houses with stainless appliances an mini tubs (according to them) cost $40K , but when I look at builders in the area, they are starting at $70K and don’t have 1/4 of what they do on T.V…..

Appearances deceive many of the commenters. As a New Zealander the first thing you ask when looking at bush accommodation is what about the sand flies? I note on their web site they say repellent is essential. Fancy cooking AND bathing outdoors with sand flies and at the mercy of the weather plus paying about US$120 per night for the privileged? Not for me! Oh, and a steep 10 minute hike to the cabin is thrown in as a bonus – which gets muddy for 3 seasons of the year… Amazingly, their site has excellent guest reviews.

In Scotland it would be midges instead of sandflies

Midges. Sandflies. Pretty much the same thing… suck ya dry if you let them.

well, I guess if I was a size 6 I would take a bath outdoors. Lol! Otherwise its the coolest house ever! Love the rustic flair, and is that a tiny pellet stove I saw? Adorable! The whole house is very inviting.

Sorry Marsha… it is definitely not a pellet stove. It is called a pot belly stove here in New Zealand, and I think that it was designed for small housing especially in the days of the Wild West, oh… is that today? LOL

Designed to burn small pieces of wood as well as coal or coke (no, not the drink). And you do NOT get close to these when they are in operation as they are hot, hot, hot.

Try using your old mate on the internet… Mr Google. Add your location and that should narrow it down a bit.
