Country restrictions are stupid in this day and age.

Anyways, if you want to watch from Canada look for firefox or Chrome plugin to do this. MediaHint and AnonymoX do the job.

I enjoyed the clips in Michigan!! It is available to me and I’ll bet it was to a lot of recipients of the e-mail. Thanks for your efforts to keep us up to date. I don’t have access to the FYI channel and I wanted to know how this show turned out! My friends saw advertising for this show and my current ideas have changed from being viewed as “Oh no, the tiny house crank idea rant again,” to “Wow! you were ahead of your time with this tiny house idea!. If it is on TV it MUST be a good idea!!”

I signed up to receive this newsletter in reaction to my cable company changing its policy from regular cable playable on all the TVs in my house to needing a box for each TV because it is ALL HD ALL THE TIME!! :)!! I refuse to have more than one HD box and I’m down to one TV on basic HD cable and I am using WI-FI on my Kindles more than I ever imagined. I believe I actually utilize about the equivalent 392 to 560 square feet of an Escape Cabin configuration within my bigger, more traditional Craftsman bungalow! It may seem a small step to some of you for me to reduce the number of TVs and to stick with just super basic cable, but it was a start. Anything that helps anyone think about “less” and “smaller” in housing seems to me to be a good start.

I have a few years to retirement, so I think I’ll continue to live where I do until I retire. I don’t think I want a tiny home on wheels, but I will definitely go tiny when I leave my current house. I’ll look for a small, existing house first and then see if I have to build something to suit me and my new sensibility.

If I would have had a tiny house from the time I graduated from college, I would’ve enjoyed living in it as I moved from place to place earlier in my working life. It might even have opened up other options for me that I never considered. I think it is a great idea for young people who are not yet sure where they might live for a decade or two at a crack–and it could sure save a lot of money in rent and moving expenses! More than enough to have a great truck for towing it!!

I’ll stay tuned in for more and more ideas!

Scooter, I have been working on downsizing for the last 4 years. DAMN does it ever take time and hard work to unload stuff !!! Yard sales, Craigslist, ebay, consignment stores !!! Constantly ! How did I ever find the time to buy all this STUFF !?!? 4 years later, my 3000 square foot home is about 75% empty. I need to get down to about 95% empty to fit into 130 square feet. Downsizing or rightsizing is a process… physical, psychological, emotional, philosophical . I have a paid for house that WAS filled with very nice possessions. And it felt FANTASTIC as each of these possessions left my life. I dont think every needs to downsize to the extreme, nor is it some kind of contest to see who can live the tiniest. But I do believe that nearly everyone would be HAPPIER if they had less stuff cluttering their lives. Watch an episode of HOARDERS …all that stuff and they are the most miserable people I have ever seen. o pigs Granted, these people live like dirty pigs (no offense to pigs) but I feel there is a lesson for us all in their lives. So I encourage everyone to start…. even if its getting rid of 10 things this weekend….see where that takes you

I don’t get that cable channel and the free version is not available in Canada. As much as I’d like to see it I’m not going to pay to do so. Perhaps it will be available for free later on. Oh well.

Thank you for posting the show online!!! I have been following the tiny home movement for about 8 months now. I have sat down and come up with my own plans many times. My wife thinks I am crazy. I was very disappointed when I found out that I could not get the FYI channel and be able to watch this show. But instead of being bummed I just finished watching it online. WHOOP WHOOP!!!! I am convinced as a 50+ oldfart that tiny home is the way to go. I want to have the financial freedom to go on vacation once or twice a year. Go do things on the weekends and not worry about spending bill money or mortgage funds because we currently have an out of control over the top mortgage. We like many people are living not quite check to check and we pick up odd jobs here and there to help make ends meet. I know, it’s my own fault because of a stupid mcmansion. But my wife of 21 years is not convinced yet. I think that if I can get her to watch these shows and she sees real people and how they make the tiny home lifestyle work. I might be able to convince her to go for it. Alex, Thank you for the daily email and articles, I do look forward to getting them every day. Someday I am going to be able to stand in the doorway of my tiny home and breathe a big sigh of relief.

The show was ok, and I had to remind myself that it was aimed at viewers who watch these ‘reality’ home shows. Not much mentioned about heating, water sources aside from the $2k composting toilet which was a decent choice.

The 2 yr old’s ‘Princess’ bedroom I disliked. Not at all what I think a tiny house bedroom should look like, much less the idea of adults simply providing a nice bedroom to accommodate a growing child. Also made the place look cluttered and cramped in that one area of the tiny house.

Did appreciate the effort made to show just how much downsizing someone HAS to do when moving to a tiny house. In fact I suggest people start seriously downsizing long before they even build a tiny house. It’s something I have had to do.

Also remember these shows ‘stage’ a lot of what one sees, that in reality won’t last.

My wife and I just finished watching. Thank you for posting the link, Alex!

To those who were disappointed, I’d say we need to take a minute consider who this show’s target audience is and what their goals are before we just grade it to be a complete failure. After watching the trailer from a few days ago it never once occurred to me that they might take a serious or detailed examination of these tiny houses…the specific details of where the water heater would go or precisely how the composting toilet functions are simply NOT the focus of this series and I’m honestly not sure how anyone generated that expectation after watching the trailer.

These episodes are just going to give us a peak into the world of the “tiny house nation”, 45-minutes at a time and I think they are obviously aimed at the fringe viewer who probably didn’t even know that these types of homes even existed.

My wife and I are extremely excited to have yet another pool of inspiration to draw from with this show even while it appears to be geared towards a more general viewer…

“The uploader has not made this video available in your country.”
Man, sometimes I think the U.S.A. thinks that Canada is like Outer Mongolia, or some other place just as obscure! Most annoying!
Apologies for ranting but this is the second video today I have wanted to see and it is not “available in your country”!

Thank you so much for showing us (at least in the U.S.) how to view this program online. I’d forgotten to watch! I love the inclusion of the importance of down-sizing in the show; I’m starting that process now. Are the plans available for purchase?

I was so excited, I called everyone and told them “Watch this program—This is what I’ve been talking about!” I thought the program was very well done—showed a good dose of reality as well. Even though I’ve drawn out many, many house plans and changed things around for my eventual TH, I got some new storage ideas! The best part is how many folks will be aware of the TH movement now. 2 thumbs up!

I’ve been following the TH movement for 3 yrs. now and love it. I appreciate the creative process in designing a space to meet an individual’s/families needs. For those of you that didn’t like the interior design of the TH in the show, remember everyone’s space needs are different. What works for one may not work for another. I, myself am working on downsizing and looking forward to watching future episodes.

Personally, I feel that it was a good show of the full act of downsizing to a small mobile style life, with the people and what they go through. Shows that it can be tough and may not be for everyone. Also shows that it can be quite a rewarding experience for those who needed a new and adventure filled start.
Congrats to the family and to all those who helped them build and understand their new homes and the trials it would bring. God bless you all and thanks for sharing this Alex. While I wouldn’t watch a continuing bunch of them, this one show, did well in my opinion. Happy Trails!
