Tiny House Building Company’s Solar-Powered Cottage on Wheels

This is the Tiny House Building Company’s Solar-Powered Cottage on Wheels that they built in Virginia for a client.

The home’s simplicity makes it elegant. You walk in through classy white French doors and the inside is a gorgeous blend of white shiplap and pine that reminds me of a beach cottage. I really love that they placed the living room under the main sleeping loft so that you get a cozy place to relax and spend time with friends and family. The fact that it uses solar power? That’s a bonus!

Take a look at the pictures below and find contact information for the builder on the last page. Enjoy!

Glancing from the living room to the kitchen.

Love the “exposed beam” look in the living room.

Railing to get you to the loft safely. Washer/dryer unit.

Lots of counter space for food prep. I might add shelves!

Taking a look at the secondary loft accessible via ladder.

The white walls make everything feel so spacious.

Maybe a sectional sofa here? Could even make it a pull-out.

The bright pine flooring gives this an open feel.

Recessed lighting is perfect where head space is scarce.

I like the hidden storage in the second loft.

Great use of an “awkward” space next to the shower.

Composting toilet to keep you off-grid.

Now there are some solar panels! Excellent.

Do you want a solar-powered tiny home?

Like this home , beautiful side entrance french doors is really elegant. I would use the space for living with a comfy soft sectional. On the blank wall, a little higher-up, I would want a drop down Murphy bed for main floor sleeping, over the sofa with wall pull-out supports for end of bed on opposite wall. This would most likely need a couple of steps pulled out from somewhere, not so difficult to figure out with your excellent builders. 🙂

I love that there are solar panels on the roof! I can’t believe more tiny homes don’t include them? I wonder if it might not make sense to explore using the Tesla solar roof rather than these v1.0 solar panels?

Tesla is a great idea 🙂

Solar roof tiles and shingles have historically been more expensive than conventional solar panels, although they are becoming more cost-competitive.

Tesla solar roof is also still not widely available yet… While it has yet to be determined just how efficient they are compared to solar panels…

Mind, solar usually works best if you can get the sun to shine directly on the panels but a solar roof can’t be moved to be angled to face the sun more directly… Solar roofs have thus traditionally been less efficient than panels…

Ideally, with a solar roof, you would probably be limited to a steep angled shed roof and have to make sure you park the house so the roof faces the sun…

There are alternatives being developed, however… Like one in development I saw was for a wind turbine that combines a layer of panels on its blades to draw both solar and wind power…

One of the issues with solar, besides usually needing to face the sun directly for optimal performance, is that when they get too warm then they get less efficient… So any system that can help prevent over heating should have a good net gain on power generation with more consistent max efficiency…

Nice open and airy cottage – love all the white shiplap. GReat living area, no shortage of comfortable space there! There is also lots of room for little design and/storage additions that will make this comfy house a home for the buyer. starting with a bigger closet. I am loving the 6 big solar panels. If they are 100 watts each, there should be plenty to handle most daily living. If I wanted to guess – and I think I do – that space under the counter to the right of the extension with the tambour door appears to be an eating counter with stools stored behind he door. The length appears to be 24′ or maybe 26′, but I can’t get the link to the website to work right now to check out the specifics on the solar, the length, the cost. Anyway, nice job!

There are actually 8 solar panels on the roof… Company site doesn’t specify what they’re rated for but they say their homes are wired for 50 AMP service as standard…

Yes I’d love to see this home lived-in because I think it could be amazing once you add personal touches/furniture and storage 🙂

Under the loft is the whole living room. It’s just unfurnished 🙂

This is great! It has such an “open concept” feel about it – which is rare in a tiny. I plan to use solar, so I always love to see that incorporated. I may have to look this builder up, I’m only a state away from Virginia.
