DIY Tiny House Builder Looking for Space to Park & Dwell – Share Your Tiny Living Story Too!

Hi Alex and Tiny House Newsletter readers, I have been a fan of Tiny House TalkĀ for almost a year now and I really appreciate you bringing the tiny house community together like you have.

I started building my tiny house in January and it will be livable by this December. My fiancee and I are Senior college students at Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, PA and we will be getting married on January 2.

We would like to live in our tiny house for our last semester of college in the spring but are having trouble finding a place to put our tiny house to live in from January to May. After we graduate in May we can really go anywhere but would like to look in Maryland, particularly around the Baltimore/DC area because that is where our family is.

I wanted to ask if you knew of any people around Mechanicsburg, PA who may be living in a tiny house and/or would be able to help us find a place to put it for the spring. That seems to be our biggest challenge right now. I attached a picture of our house above. šŸ™‚

We just finished insulating it last night (with 100% sheep wool insulation). We will begin putting the knotty pine paneling up next weekend.

Thank you,

Austin Eschenwald

Our hugeĀ thanks to Austin Eschenwald for sharing his tiny house thus far with us!

If you know of anyone that might be able to help Austin and his fiancee to find a place to park his beautiful tiny home beginning January 2015 please let us know in the comments below as we’d love to help him find the right spot!

Thank you!

Check out property & location, I’ve started/created an environment to attract Tiny Home dwellers in limited numbers of course. I’m creating on my two urban lots a living example of “Off-Grid Eco-Pod Research Triangle” having examples of many types of alternative sustainable self reliant homes. From Containers, Conversion Buss, 5 Plex Micro-Pod Tree House, Caves, Bunkers, Earth Sheltered, Hobbitville, Tiny Houses, and the main residence as a rooming house as a Tiny House Incubator of sorts. There are several Off Grid and Net-Zero projects going on with a co-housing environment of Urban Homesteading. I host Meetup groups here all with this like minded centergy about them. ie. http://www.meetup.com/Sustainable-Simplicity/
And to see what type of things are going on here check out my Pinterest site:
http://www.pinterest.com/drjohn2711/ This may give you and others a bit of information of what I have going on here. I have a website being rebuilt for “Green Building Concepts” and building a .com obtained “Camp Tiny House.com Both sites are under construction but soon will be viable sites worth visiting.

Thank you very much for your offer John. North Carolina is actually one place we have talked about moving to. One of our goals for this house is to get it 100% off the grid. We are building a composting toilet, would like to get the solar powered in the future, and would also like to install a rainwater collecting system. Our gray water system will be a tank mounted under the house that will be used to water our compost and plants. All of the chemicals we will use will be environmentally friendly to allow for the gray water to be put straight back into the environment. We are very interested in what you are doing (we are all about living more simple, sustainable lives) and want to learn more about how to do it) and we are very interested in the possibility of bringing our house to your property. I would love to continue this conversation over Facebook or email so if you could friend request me on FB that would be great.

Love the looks of your tiny house! When I read the headlines, I thought I might be able to help — then realized I’m in the wrong part of the country! I live in Florida, about 20 miles north of Tallahassee. I have 4.4 acres, and will be building a small house within the next 6 months or so, but already have well, septic and power pole, since there used to be a mobile home on the property. If that is of interest to you in the future, let me know! I can only have two dwellings on the property.

Thank you so much for the offer Nancy. We are not sure where we will end up after May 2015. We may very well look for job opportunities in Florida. If that is so I will definitely get in touch with you!

I have several acres in New Mexico. Two of my 70 acres have a well and 2 septic tanks and power. One of those two acres has a 30×50′ steel building with drive-through RV garage doors. It would be perfect for a Tiny Home workshop. I’m talking with another person about developing a Tiny House Village as there are virtually no covenants restricting it. Email me if the Land of Enchantment with 360 degree vistas are of interest.

Thank you for your offer Eli. It is ironic that the multiple offers that people have given us so far have all been states we have mentioned taking our house to (NC, FL and NM). If we do decide to move our house out west I will definitely get in touch with you! Thanks again.

Eli- where in NM are you? What is your email?

      Thanks!

How do we get a hold of you, Eli Cain? Both myself and a gf from Texas are looking at land in New Mexico, I will probably be in an RV that I haven’t purchased yet, she is looking to get one of them Tiny sheds that are all around the country now, like 12×20 or 12×24 and covert into Tiny House. We would be very interested in this Land of Enchantment you speak of. I know there is 3.7 acres for sale up by Candy Kitchen for 5k, but when I heard of -40 wind chills, I realized I needed to go further south! WARM is my thing, I am too old to be cold anymore. I think 23 yrs of working road construction in inclement weather has wrecked my internal heat thermometer! lol

I stumbled on a website just last evening that includes a map of parks in the U.S.. It is http://www.lillodges.com. Also, if anyone else has info they could pass on to that company about park locations, it would be most appreciated by those of us who are interested in tiny house living and wanting to find a spot before acquiring a new smaller home. Best of luck to you in your new adventures!

I actually posted an ad on craigslist for the area I wanted to place my tiny house. I explained what I needed like a water and electric hook-up and how much I would be willing to pay monthly. I’ve received about 6 responses so far, one is at an unoccupied residence with 5 acres, another is on an organic farm. I wasn’t sure I would get any responses but they are still coming in. It might be worth a try for anyone else looking to park their tiny house. A lot of people are struggling financially and could use the extra income-especially when they don’t have to really do anything. good luck my fellow tiny housers!
