I’m excited to introduce you to the Tiny Giant House project.

It’s definitely one of the most creative tiny house designs and builds I’ve ever seen and although it’s almost completed it’s still a work in progress as I write this to you.

One of the most notably unique features is the built-in chicken coop. Yes! A tiny house on wheels with an onboard chicken coop! And hold your horses because there’s even more creative goodness when you go inside. It’s definitely a must-see. Please enjoy and re-share it with your tiny house friends below because I think they’ll enjoy it too. Thanks!

The orange pops of colour are great especially with the salad garden but the winner in here is the rock climbing wall to get to the kid’s bunk.

This is so awesome! I totally want to keep chickens and have some hydroponics/aquaponics, though figured it’d be too crammed in a tiny house. Well done!

Wow, that’s a hot mess. The outside and the “IDEA” of it all is fabulous. It was difficult to figure out the spaces and the use of the same because of the mess. Wow. I’d like to see this one after it is finished. I LOVE the overall design of the place, well though out, and tons of potential.

What mess? You realize it is finished, right? I love how everybody’s a critic in the comments here….

You think that’s a mess? Hoo boy! It does appear that all of the stuff they were working with/on was dumped in the bathroom under the loft. Lounging area in loft #2? Great ideas.

Off grid period. This designer understands the concept and the philosophy behind the tiny house movement!

Nice idea of combining the washer/drier and closet hanging space all in the same area..Also the bigger kitchen sink is a added plus as well.

This is about perfect (well, I’m not in to rockwall climbing…but that’s cool too)! Aquaponics, chickens, growing your own stuff…AND all in a tiny house…. ahh someone heard my heart!

Seriously, not meant as any kind of a slam here, but how do chickens like tiny house living? Did they adapt ok to it? I think this is massively creaetive, way to go!

Just came across this. I like the idea of the aquaponics and te solar panels. I’m just starting to build a tiny home. Where did you get the solar panels from?

I say allllllll the time that people just don’t know how to live small these days. Having said that, I think I’d be claustrophobic there.
It truly does amaze me though when I see little houses like this the creative uses they make of the space. Really genious!

Lots of neat stuff! But, when driving, the extention on the trailer’s front end lessens the turning radius when backing it up. Could be a problem if the turn is a tight one.

Yes. You are correct. They make extensions for the hitches, which we use and it mitigates this issue.

    Cool beans. Awesome!!!

  • July 9, 2015, 4:56 pm

Oh I love the simple swirly hydroponic edible garden! And the chicken coop is an interesting idea, I’ve tossed around something similar but a catio, so my kitts would have a place to play and watch the birds where I can also hide their litter box out of constant view.

Some very lovely ideas here, thanks for sharing them with us!

Kickers! Rock climbing wall for kid, chickens, orange pops of color, adjustable desk……

Like! Great modern design, rock wall bonzo! Fabulous for a young family. Like Y.K. Greene, I too would prefer a dedicated space for my kitties; however, fresh eggs…hmm! But one still has to climb to go to bed; that aspect wouldn’t work for this 72-year-old. My personal favorite is Abel Zyl’s beautiful “Little Bird.” Windows all over, wonderful desk and that bed!

Is that a giant man eating killer crow or raven in one of those pictures? And, do the chickens have to live in that tiny area all the time?

    • rob irwin
      July 23, 2015, 4:25 pm

No. The chickens will roam when the house is in place using a popup fence system. 🙂

I am relieved to hear that you let the chickens roam while the house is in place. I think your house is great and I like it even more now knowing that your chickens can free range. 🙂

    Rob,
I applaud you for the energy you put into your design. I have researched this concept for a while, and as a former builder,(turned attorney) and now a builder again, your efficiency and innovations are very interesting. Thanks for sharing all you do with your building ideas.
I have one question. What are the solar panels you use and are you satisfied with them?
    Thanks again

I used to have show dogs and there are collapsible pens with four sides only or with a top that can be opened up and used as an exercise pen. I own ring-necked doves and I rotate a schedule so each has flight time every couple of days. Animals, like humans, get cage fatigue (from being cooped up,) and can get ulcers and all sorts of other health problems, but if they know they are going to get time out in their playpen, it keeps them in good shape and spirits. Also, by having the playpen, it cuts down on cleaning in the coop. I hope you will consider giving your feathery friends some time out for good behavior. They look really beautiful.

As Rob stated in reply to another’s comment, the chickens will roam free when the home is not being transported 🙂

As a fellow cat lover (and all critters) I agree with Y.K. Green; the chicken coup idea would be a wonderful way for small furry friends to enjoy fresh air and sunlight if they could enter and exit the space at will.
There are many wonderful ideas here such as the hydrophonics, climbing wall (my favorite), and I really like the storage scheme here for athletic gear. The 1 and only idea that gives me pause (no pun intended) is the chicken coop. Silly to some maybe but as an extreme lover (and non-eater) of animals, I urge people to rethink the idea of keeping any animal in a space this small. It is a great concept and appealing I’m sure to people who want fresh eggs but pleeeeze don’t do this unless the chickens can roam outside of the coop at all times when the TH is not in transit. Keeping them in a space this small 24/7 is truly impractical and very cruel. (Sorry, but true). Otherwise this is a well thought out and attractive design. Thanks for sharing and I do hope youll share the finished product with us.

In the 10th and 11th picture to the right of the plant there’s a blackish blob that looks like a monkey or maybe the rear end of a cat. I even zoomed in on the picture and I can’t figure out what it is. It’s driving me nuts trying to figure out what it is. Can you please tell me. Thanks.

I like the fact that it is off grid however I didn’t see REST ROOM plan. I like the washer/dryer but where/how is the water provided off grid. Great job

…..who did that wiring? Seriously. I’m usually not critical of a project without knowing all the details but that is some of the worst, most unprofessional, dangerous wiring I’ve seen. I hope it has been corrected since this post otherwise that’s just a fancy smoke house for those chickens.

Just happened to come accross the program where you built the chicken coop house. I love the entire concept.

We are in california and would love to have a tiny house built for our daughter.

    How would that work?

Is this something you could do? She loves being outdoors and stays pretty active so would need a way to haul her motorcycle, hockey gear, surfboard, snowboarding gear, etc. … Can you design something that could accomodate all this? Is it realistic?

    Thanks
    Maria

I may be very late in the game and you may not even be living in the tiny house anymore. However, I think it is great that you have a chicken coop. *yeah organic eggs, freee!* but do you also have a pen or range for them? It makes me sad to think those chickens are in a tiny cage all the time just to make eggs for you. Other than that, kudos on doing your part 🙂
