From Indiegogo:

Meet the GRENGINE™, the little engine that can. Here at Growing Greener Innovations, we look to change the world of portable energy with this silent and emission-free solar generator; the only system in the world capable of replacing the standard gasoline operated generators, which are poisoning the world with millions of tons of Greenhouse Gases and Carbon Monoxide every year.

The GRENGINE’s patent pending system uses stackable and interchangeable batteries to deliver a knockout punch to the gasoline generator. The formula that has made gas generators the long-standing winner in industrial use, has been the ease of topping up fuel, compared with waiting for batteries to recharge. Until now. With the GRENGINE™ you can switch batteries even easier than refilling a gas tank.

Effective changes are made gradually. Viable and significant improvement takes time, so our mission is to take meaningful steps toward a more sustainable future. We develop and support environmentally conscious technology, with the objective of continually making our planet greener.

The GRENGINE™ is constructed to last more than 2000 cycles. It is also compartmentalized, allowing us to recycle only the battery when it does see the end of its life, as opposed to trashing the whole unit. We’ve designed it to be easy to use so that widespread adoption is inevitable; with widespread adoption comes lasting environmental impact. We can remove millions of tons of greenhouse gases with the GRENGINE™!

Portable power banks aren’t new. The idea of changing battery banks is good and necessary because 1200 Watts aren’t much. Its actually the daily power consumption of two people without air conditioning.
Wondering that this can keep you off grid for more than a day.

Ya I’m not positive about that. They seemed to advertise it could go on endlessly, but I was also wondering just how long it would last. — Tiny House Talk Team

Don’t know about off-grid, but it could definitely work for a home backup. You could keep it in the basement safely and quietly. Two people for one day… That’s probably enough to run a refrigerator/freezer, a computer/cell phone, a couple LED bulbs, and possibly a microwave oven for 2-3 days. That’s enough to live on for almost any power outage, especially if you have extra batteries charged up. In a pinch it might run a well pump to flush toilets in a rural area.

You are right oxide. What I have been trying to say that 1200 Watt aren’t much for off grid living because its hard to accommodate 2000 Watt solar panels on the roof of a tiny house.
You need to get this size to generate 1200 Watt not talking about a second battery pack and cloudy days. Additional wind generator may be put into consideration.

Very good concept, you just add extra units to supply required energy.

Better & more affordable storage is definitely needed. In and of itself it isn’t a generator, it stills needs a source of power like solar. If you plug it into the wall for charging you need to consider the pollution of source of the electricity.

Headed in the right direction, still needs a separate source of energy.

I might have understood it wrong, but I’m pretty sure it is solar-powered. — Tiny House Talk Team

From above – “Charge it from your wall, your car, or from the sun and then take it where you need it.” Later they show it with a small solar panel.

You know I like the idea, and it’s a great invention,BUT if you really believe that a generator produces that much pollution, you probably believe that cows can jump over the moon too.

The comparison is often between a simple 2-stroke blowing a large amount of articulates and a relative new CA emissions controlled vehicle. The EPA has the data if one has the desire to know. A 2-stroke can easily put out 40-50 times the pollution. Watch someone screaming down the road blowing blue smoke, it can be a lot.

Look at third world cities where health problems are everywhere they have 2-stroke vehicles vs the same number of people in a CA city.

That would be PARTICULATES, not ARTICULATES.

      More coffee is needed.

Ridiculous hype IMHO. (” the only system in the world capable of replacing the standard gasoline operated generators”) Really??

    https://www.lowes.com/pd/KOHLER-enCUBE-1-200-Watt-Hour-Portable-Solar-Generator/1000044491
(note: not pushing these products, just a comparison of similar concept sans the easy interchange battery.)
While the concept & other similar products have been out there for awhile, this one does have the unique ability to easily interchange battery packs so that’s apparently a first, good for them. To label this as the great green revolution alternative that’s going to thrash gas generators rendering them obsolete while saving the world, = disingenuous & a huge turnoff. The easily interchangeable battery is great! Why not stick to that & give us real specs??
Lets quantify 1200 watt/hrs. From a 12v source inverting to 120v AC, you get approximately 10 amps of energy for 1 hour. Sticking with the 12vdc you have 100 amps available. Here’s a chart of the approximate wattage usage of various electrical appliances, tools, & devices.
    http://www.rpc.com.au/information/faq/system-design/estimate-demands.html
Simply multiply the running watts used for something like a fridge & you will see you get maybe 3-4 hours run time assuming a 100% drawdown of battery pack (deep cycle systems generally recommend only a 50% drawdown but no real specs are given with this product). Many electric motors have a large start current surge & this device probably would not even start a 1/2 hp. well pump much less run it. Also, the rate of battery discharge affects the amount of usable power for a given time.
Super battery? They claim it will last over 2000 cycles- drawing dawn what % of capacity???
Is the inverter sine wave? Inverters also consume power when in operation. Suggested price for total system & battery pack?
If I wanted a portable, rechargeable (from multiple sources) power supply, I’d calculate what loads I needed to run & for what duration & source the individual components (battery, inverter, charger, charge controller) to accomplish this. I’d assemble them on a small cart or dolly. One problem I see with all these bundled units is the probable inability to replace individual defective components. Building your own (buy/source local if possible) would overcome this obstacle & if you planned to go with a larger setup you could buy individual components that could be used later in a upgraded/expanded PV setup.
Just my .03$ worth (inflation 🙂

Well I think their efforts are going in the right direction… At first I though it to be a funky new Stanley Lunch Bucket with some kinda of built in USB and stereo system.. But when they went into their shpeal I became interested as I love to see new low impact devices being built for the masses…! I was very much enlightened by there presentation and liked their sales approach, but it made no mention about it’s pricing or expected pricing.. So I did a little investigating, something I recommend to all my fellow readers, and found that it cost so much I am surprised that they had any backers at all….! Unfortunately for them there are a lot of these type products already out on the market , and again unfortunately much lower in price with more power and less recovery time and no need for any accessories to make them heavier then they are already… You see within this wonderful machine there is a battery and once more again a stack able battery that does not increase output or efficiency only weight and is very limited in it usability which means you don’t get that extra bag for your buck… When she had said that it’s unlimited power unlimited so long as the battery holds out before needing recharging, via the unlimited suns energy not the unit’s… Ta-da sun’s unlimited energy…! OH and very pricey compaired to others out on the market as I started to say….! Sorry…! I wish them luck nonetheless….!
