Oh dear, Alex! What a pick! Yes this is Rockefellers in a tiny. What a beautiful, spacious, clever design. Who needs more? I love this one! From today Escher is one of my three top th builders. And great marketing site too. They don’t dare to show the price though 😉

    Where do you sit..

The central area is a transformable space… When needed it can provide seating for quite a few people… Note the photo with the dining table set up, it basically has bench seating on three sides.

There’s also a stool by the fold out table by the bathroom, and the little ottoman bench with foot rest ball shaped thingy… and the steps to the kitchen can also be used like bench seating…

This is the most incredible and usable tiny home I have seen – even better than the ones I have designed! Bravo.

Obviously this is gorgeous (the copper touches are so attractive) and probably has a huge price tag. What’s got me wondering is Escher. He’s listed as a baby and I can’t imagine carrying him up that ladder. However his room looks to be made for a toddler; I would worry about him trying to use the bathroom while his parents are sleeping at the other end of the house. I guess since the house was made for their lifestyle they have worked out the particulars.

It’s more a hybrid stair/ladder with integrated hand hold/rail… So easier to climb than a regular ladder.

They still have a few years before they have to worry about the kid needing to use the bathroom without assistance.

But the loft room is big enough to place a small porta potti for the transition period before the child is old enough to safely climb down without help to use the main bathroom.

In the meantime, the loft room has a door. So they can just put a child lock on it to be sure, and baby monitor of course…

A first for Tiny Homes – a six burner stove. Too much money and not enough sense.

    • James D.
      January 3, 2018, 5:45 am

      Uh, no…

First, the fact is different people will prioritize different things in their house according to their lifestyle and needs. So just because someone prioritizes differently from how you would do it doesn’t mean they lack sense, they just have different priorities than you do… Going tiny doesn’t mean people have to give up what’s important to them!

Second, the cook top is their only cookware! There is no microwave or oven! So they’re doing all their cooking with the cook top and didn’t spend on anything else. So hardly splurging… Btw, it’s a five burner and not six…

Third, people who go tiny often still have a social life… Case in point the central area of the house is a transformable space that can provide seating for over a dozen people. So they can handle having guests over, like family get togethers, etc. So they’re not going to be the only ones who will ever eat in this house!

Some people also cook large portions because they intend for the food to last multiple days and isn’t doing just one off meals. Yet others may prefer to cook multi-course meals, among the list of reasons why they would choose this size cook top…

The glass garage door also lets them open up the house to the outdoors to handle even more people, if they ever had to…

Fourth, cook tops like this provide a wider range of cooking options. Like you can use grill plates for indoor grilling. You can also easily do canning… There’s even products like a oven box you can place over it for baking but it can be folded and stored away when not being used for more efficient use of space.

There’s also nothing stopping them from having a custom cutting board that they can place over the cook top if they ever needed more counter top space for food prep, etc.

So there’s nothing being wasted here…

This is more than beautiful. I loved the Alpha, but this is better for me with the Master bedroom not up in the loft. The choices for finishes are excellent. That bathroom is “far out and solid” – ok, I just gave it away. I’m retired, yes, but lead a full, active life. I would only request 2 options for me…but I love this just the way it is, too…I would need a bed that left more room in the bedroom, and I loved to cook and bake, so a convection oven would be nice. Great job!!! Happy New Year! I look forward to seeing more from your company. 🙂

At this point a change of life is extremely inviting, and as a quote of Caroline Myss: “Awareness is the ability to get rid of the old to welcome the new, aware of the fact that all things begin and end”…

I love the clever house, but the baby loft is terrifying and completely unsafe. Children are inventive and surprising, and at some unpredictable point, the baby will be mobile and through that gate and, God forbid, could fall. No child monitor can make this safe. A child can’t safely sleep up there until they are at least eight or nine. Nor can a parent safely transport an infant or toddler up there. I am a mom of three kids, trust me on this.

      January 5, 2018, 2:26 pm

It’s not the most idea but let’s not exaggerate…

Like I pointed out before, you can simply add a lock to the door. Child can’t accidentally get out if they can’t open the door on their own.

You can also add a gate by the stair/ladder, just like you would on a second floor for stairs, once the child gets more mobile and/or are using the second half of the loft for letting the child play.

While the child monitor is just to know if the child needs anything and to check on the child without needing to climb up and down all the time… It’s not to avoid taking other safety precautions!

The stair/ladder is also hardly impossible to use, aside from being steeper, you can still climb it like you would stairs with just one hand required to hold onto the railing to keep balance.

While you can simply use a child sling/pouch to hold the child but keep your arms free… Among other options and ways to do it…

Really, people have been living in places like the side of mountains, houses in the trees, inside a network of caves with different levels, etc. for thousands of years and those are a lot harder places to live than this house with a lot more ascending and descending required for daily life.

I’d worry more about the things that are not so easy to control or predict, like if the child likes to climb and grab things then every part of the house that may offer a hand or foot hold may need to be child proofed, especially things that can tip over and fall on them.

I remember the alpha not having enough bedroom space for me. This is just an improvement in everyway. What a wonderful way to improve on a design.

I always liked what they are doing and a gooseneck is the better choice for a
THOW of this size. Well a baby space far away from the master bedroom seems to me not the perfect solution as to sleep beside the kitchen. Closer to the bathroom would be better.
However, everybody has different needs but the central living area would be my choice of floor plan, too. Its difficult to achieve with a bumper pull because of weight distribution.
For my taste the front is too high which doesn’t help to reduce fuel consumption when on the road as the huge window which is hard to clean. But I guess they are not moving much.
Kitchen and bathroom are great and designed for regular use.
The price tag of it appears to me beyond 100k which isn’t easy to afford for many.

Each one of David’s builds, although similar, are always “new” if you know what I mean, sure you expect the dinning table and benches under the kitchen floor, the garage door style entrance/cross breeze, copper backsplash, and other similarities, but it never seems to amaze me, like a beautiful painting, there’s always that “ahhh” moment when you first see it and, my guess, continues on, knowing that you’ve acquired a true masterpiece at an affordable price, well not so affordable to most of us but if excellent craftsmanship is what you’re after, then you got it when you commission David to build your forever home, and he delivers it.
