Teardrop Trailer, Transit Connect and a Tiny House

This post contains affiliate links.

I was looking at the Ford Transit Connect earlier because I’ve been seeing them around town lately and thought, man these would be perfect coupled up with a teardrop trailer!

So I went on a search to see if anyone out there has posted their Transit + Teardrop Trailer pictures. I didn’t get an exact match but it led me to some other cool (and unique) finds.

Did you know the Transit Connect packs the same cargo room as a pick up truck? You can really fit quite a lot in there and when you add a teardrop you can see how this can be a really fun way to adventure.

But anyway, let me show you what I did find…

A super tiny teardrop trailer with one of the world’s smallest cars along with a tiny house in the background.

I went to the Ford dealer to check out the Transit. I really liked it and would consider it as my replacement vehicle. Unfortunately, the salesman told me that it could NOT pull a trailer.

I have a transit connect, it won’t pull a trailer. but it is long enough to sleep in and some extra room for supplies.

Well…they “don’t recommend pulling” because they didn’t want to spend the time/$ to test them here. We purchased a 2012 Transit Connect Premium Wagon and pull our teardrop camper with it. 🙂

That is what they said about the Smart Fortwo but I have seen photos of Smarts pulling small camper trailers; teardrops and pop ups. Perhaps if the trailer was small enough, it could be pulled by a Ford Transit? There are some that are small enough for a motorcycle to pull.

Perhaps they don’t officially say it could tow a trailer so they won’t get sued if some thing happens when some one does? IMO; there are too many trivial lawsuits over such things.

There are posts about towing with this vehicle.
It might be worth checking out. 🙂

I’ve seen people pull teardrop trailers with 4 cylinder vehicles like Subarus, Altimas, and a RAV4 so I’m sure it could. I guess it just might wear out the suspension earlier than usual. You can also get a better suspension installed in the rear to make it more doable.

The teardrop looks like a Falcon Sleeper.

Instead of towing a camper with the Ford Transit Connect, here is one that is made into a camper. 🙂
