This off grid tiny cabins retirement story is a guest post by Michael Scheer – share your tiny house story here too!

My name is Michael and about 5 years ago I wanted an off-grid place for vacation and retirement. Like many others, I am tired of bills, bills, bills and knew I would never have enough money to retire on unless I became debt-free and my home was paid off.

A couple of years passed and as things happened I had a friend who went through a divorce (I recently moved out of my ex-girlfriends home 8 months prior) and he needed help monetarily in order to buy a home and asked me to move in. The move cut my rent in half and enabled me along with my bonus check to purchase some land I found in northern AZ at about 6500 ft elevation. Summers are mild with highs in the low 90’s high 80’s and winters are in the 40’s and 50’s with light snow. I picked up 6 acres for less than $4k.

Months later I decided to put in my first cabin, I bought a 10×18 from weatherking (apx. $4200.00), it was just a shell.

This is a converted school bus that Sarah Szymczak, her husband Ed, and their four kids live in.

Sarah says, “I never thought we would own a school bus. Yet, it does not surprise me that we do. We’re always up for an adventure, always open to venturing outside of the norm. Two creative parents. Four fun loving kiddos. And a whole lot of wild and crazy dreaming.”

I hope you enjoy learning how this family converted an old school bus into a fun, crafty and cozy tiny home for six! So I’ll let Sarah take you on their journey to school bus living below.

We want our children, our family, to be grounded in a lifestyle that isn’t about the next big purchase, but rather the next experience that feeds the core of who we are. So, we bought a bus. Here’s how that happened…

Please enjoy, learn more and re-share below. Thank you!

The idea of a tiny house lifestyle is fascinating, adventurous, and even freeing.

But you and me both know that a tiny home isn’t going to fix all of our problems.

And assuming that a tiny house is going to make all aspects of our lives better (or easier) is just plain wrong. The truth is that tiny houses work for some people, couples and even families while they fail miserably for others. But why?

That’s why I want you to see why these five people decided to leave their tiny houses and go back to a more mainstream type of home. Beware. Tiny living isn’t right for all. The good news? As the years go by, tiny living options are increasing and the lifestyle will be less challenging and more obtainable to most. Is a tiny house right for you in your life right now? Are you prepared to go tiny? Read the full article and let us know in the comments below. Either way please enjoy and re-share below. Thanks!

This is a guest post by Trevor Gay @heartofitallhouseshare your tiny house!

Much like everyone else who’s built their own home or Tiny House, it’s a bittersweet feeling to see the project come to completion. So many long nights and weekends of pouring your family, your friends, and your own blood, sweat, and tears into a project– that it finally comes to life.

After nearly 5 years of contemplation between layouts, designs, and even if the lifestyle was right…. We finally found hOMe. I had stumbled across the Morrison’s house and without a doubt, knew immediately that their house was the closest thing to what I had been searching for.

We literally counted down the seconds for the plans to be released on the TinyHouseBuild.com website. My girlfriend at the time (now fiancé) Mary and I sat a table in our local EarthFare to buy the plans. We bought our trailer from the kind family at Tennessee Tiny Homes in October, and started the build 1 week before Christmas 2014.

See how this married couple, Peter and Shannon, built their own tiny house for less than $20,000 and how they are living simply in it.

This is one of the most amazing tiny homes I’ve ever seen. I think you’ll be really impressed once you see what it’s like inside.

Inside this little cottage on wheels, you’ll find everything you want from home… A 28″ flat screen TV, washer/dryer, kitchen with large sink, staircase to the loft, and lots of windows and natural light throughout. All for under $20k.

Great work Peter, Shannon, Peter’s Dad, (and their friends, family, and building team). This is yet another amazing example of what you can do with your own custom tiny house project with enough dedication and good old fashion hard work.

I’m excited to show you how this couple built their own tiny home in 4 months for only $22k.

Back in 2014 I interviewed them and got to show you a photo tour of their tiny house on wheels.

If you already haven’t, meet Andrew and Gabriella Morrison. And check out their tiny “hOMe” on a trailer that they designed and built themselves below. You’ll get to see how they designed and built a tiny house with a relatively big kitchen, an office, two lofts, tons of storage, and more.

And if you like their design enough (it’s pretty well thought out, isn’t it?) they offer a set of plans so you can build it yourself along with a DVD on how to build tiny. Pretty cool, right?

This 32′ tiny house on skids for sale is a guest post by Jimmy

This 32′ tiny home was built by my kids and me with love and energy-efficiency in mind.

It’s 8 ft. wide by 32 ft long. It actually has two bedrooms! And it’s built on skids for easy transport.

I also have a 1/2 an acre for sale if someone needs a place to keep the home. No restrictions on the land, you can pretty much do anything on it. I’m asking $16k for this tiny house.
