“I wanted to change peoples minds who thought they could never live in a tiny house. I did have the experience of building a regular full size home in the past so that made things much easier for me. I decided to use all high end finishes and details in this tiny house. Quartz counter tops, quarry stone backsplash, Frigidaire stainless appliances, top of the line on demand propane hot water heater, all LED lighting, cedar lined bathroom etc…

I believe that for a tiny house to be truly livable you need to have a nice size bathroom and a spacious functional kitchen. I believed I have achieved both. The bathroom is a spacious 5’x8′. It includes a 36″ shower, dual flush toilet, 24″ vanity and washer/dryer hook ups.

The kitchen is equipped with a 10 cubic foot fridge/freezer, propane stove/oven and 14′ of quartz counter space. Lots of drawers, cabinets and even a pantry under the stairs.

The bedroom loft is 11′ deep. The stairs even have built in storage in every riser. The second loft is 5′ deep and would be great for storage or a child’s room.

The couch has built in storage and also converts into a queen bed. I love seeing peoples faces when the step into the tiny house for the first time. I’ve changed of peoples impressions of what a tiny house can be. Oh and the the house is insulate all with Roxul rock wool. R-23 in the floor and ceiling and R-15 in the walls.”

Shannon you did a wonderful job. Everything looks so nice and cozy with great interior finishes. Love the kitchen and bath with all the room and no need to sleep in the loft if you are older. Fantastic.

I agree with you, have a day couch/sleep bed on the main floor, and let visiting kids sleep in the loft (most are small enough and will get more enjoyment sleeping in a loft). Also, great for storage, like having an attic. I like the cabinets in the kitchen, they are just like mine, but with handles and nobs, and the counter top looks like the one I have as well. I would have had a longer counter in the bathroom, for laying a hair dryer or anything else on. I love the refrigerator, a tall one is better, more room to keep cold food, and freezer.

The smaller ones are great for dorm rooms, cold snacks and soda, or bottled water, and re-freezable ice cubes. For an RV, or Small house on wheels, an RV refrigerator is better. The washer/dryer combo is also a must for such residence. A decent size bathroom is also a must. I am for everything on one floor, I am too old for stairs and ladders. I would use that space for closet, and drawers, and shelves. This looks nicely done, and like the finishes.

I like the idea of LED lights as well. I like the walls in the bathrooms.

LOVE IT…..You did an outstanding job…..high class looks and great layout. Wish I could see pics of the shower…hint, hint. What kind of flooring is used and what kind of a/c…I live in Texas and I need air not necessarily heat 🙂 Is there a protective
layer on the bottom, to keep kritters out…a layer that can’take be chewed up?

    • Shannon Black
      July 5, 2016, 1:12 pm

Hi Julie, thanks for the compliments. The flooring is vinyl planks. Looks like wood but very durable. I live in Seattle so no AC is installed. 😉 The entire bottom of the trailer is sheet metal so no critters are getting into this one. The shower (36″x36″) and WD hookups are located on the opposite wall as the toilet and vanity in the bathroom. Hope this answers your questions. thanks again.

Love your Tiny Home Shannon, so much space, great bath, kitchen, counter space, and especially main floor built in couch that can be a bed. I am a senior, forget the climbing stairs, but great for G. kids and visits from big family. 🙂

This home is spectacular. I love all of the details you put into it. I too believe a tiny house should feel comfortable and inviting. Yours does all of this. I hope to be able to do the same with mine later this year. Again I love everything about your home.

Sorry, one more question please. What size trailer are you using?

    • Shannon Black
      July 4, 2016, 3:59 pm

It’s a 26′ Iron Eagle trailer. Check out there website. They are out of Portland and make this PAD trailer just for tiny houses.

        July 5, 2016, 6:15 pm

Thanks for the info. I have a 24′ trailer already. I was wondering if I would be able to do mine that way. I live in Texas so a pretty long way to go to get a tiny house build, :). I may have to eventually though, lol.

Fantastic job Shannon! With what you have built I could definitely see myself living in a tiny home. A little disappointed that there isn’t a picture of the shower and washer/dryer, but this little space is beautiful!

Sorry about that, the shower and the W/D are on the opposite wall of the toilet and vanity if that helps your visual.

Beautiful home! I love the kitchen and bathroom. Make’s you feel like your in a regular house. You stated that the toilet is dual flush. How does that work in a tiny home on wheels? Is it an RV toilet? How do you get rid of the contents? I like the idea better than a compost toilet. I also like the painted walls. I don’t care for the everything is bare wood look.

    • Shannon Black
      July 4, 2016, 4:03 pm

Hi Emily, I’ve plumbed this tiny house to be just like a regular house. It even separates the black water and grey water if you choose. It works like an RV where you would need a septic system or external tank to plug into. You could always remove the flush toilet and ad a composting toilet if that worked better for the situation. I wanted all options to be possible with this design.

Well done. Is it possible for you to let us know a ball park figure on the cost to build the whole project? Are there any things you would do differently in hindsight?

Love it. The only thing I would change is the black trim inside. I love color, hate white walls, but could live with it if the trim was different. Or maybe same color trim and the white walls could have a different color. A soft color. LOVE the kitchen!

    • Shannon Black
      July 5, 2016, 12:27 pm

The trim isn’t black its a Kona stain so it is really dark brown. Thats the beauty of paint though, you can paint it any color you like. 🙂

Shannon exactly where are the washer/detected hookups located and how much room is there for the appliance(s)?

    • Shannon Black

W/D hook ups are in the bathroom next to the shower. Sorry that pick wasn’t included.

Shannon, you did a truly amazing job. I have been following the movement since Tinyhousetalk.com came on line. This is the most amazing house I have seen. Do you have a layout or design you could share or even sell? Who did the actual build for you? Do you have any idea what it would cost to reproduce your house?

Thank you so much for sharing with us. I am widowed and in my early 70’s. I am still hoping I will find a way to do this. Living in South Eastern Michigan is my biggest obstacle. If anyone out there has any solutions please let me know.

I love the spacious look which is set off by the trim – the trim frames everything, making framed pictures as your eyes move around the room. My personal preference is for fewer cabinets, which this design has. Lots of cabinets make a space feel closed in, and they remind me of all the things that I am storing that I should give up. Some overflow essentials can go in the second loft, non-essentials can stay in stores, thrift shop, or be donated.
Every tiny home design lacks my personal touch – which is OK by me, because each design lets me dream about living in that space. This space is invitingly open and relaxing. Again – I love it!

    Shannon,

What was the final cost for this? My boyfriend and I are in the beginning stage of building a 36′ tiny house. I like your floor plan as we also want a good size kitchen and bathroom with 2 lofts, one for us and one for my daughter.

I dream of some day having my own tiny house. We shall see. In the meantime, I’m with you in that I would chose to go first class all the way, with finishing touches, etc. I really like your kitchen “table” that looks out the large window. You can sit there and ear, work on a computer, even set up a sewing machine there. Good use of space.
I have printed yours for future reference.

Some seriously fabulous living there! Well thought out and well built. I totally agree about a comfortable living space. So many tiny houses put in great kitchens but relegate the lounging area to a tiny bench squashed in wherever it fits or requires going up to the loft to stretch out. Being able to flop out on a comfy couch with windows to look out of is an absolute necessity, especially in crummy weather.

This is SO well designed. I love the use of good quality finishings. The bathroom wood walls are really beautiful. I would probably sleep downstairs. One thing that would finish it off perfectly would be a dutch door for the front door!! 🙂 Beautiful!!

Oops, just realized there is actually one thing I would change on this. Although fantastic in every other way, with such a beautiful kitchen, I would personally hate to compromise with such a tiny sink! I wouldn’t want a huge sink, but this doesn’t look large enoughenoughh to wash the cooking pots I would use in this kitchen!
